If we sign Nandez and/or Cunha, where does Rodrigo fit in? Genuinely curious.

Yeah the rumor out here is that when the new management analyzed Hertha's rather terrible last season they identified him as a major source of locker room discontent. That doesn't necessarily mean he's someone who will destroy your team chemistry but Hertha seems to want to shake things up a bit and that could mean selling their most talented player.
It was telling that when the new sporting director gave his first press conference he casually managed that Cunha didn't have a release clause. It all sounds like he's available for the right price.
By the way, he will play for Brazil at next month's Olympics in Japan. If he plays a central role for them just like he did during the qualifying tournament then that might increase his price.

We've already pulled out of one signing because the player went to the Olympics apparently. Bielsa won't want Cunha going to Tokyo imo

Didn’t MB also put the block on Meslier going to Tokyo with France ?

Re: Matheus Cunha-Agent doubts transfer

Post by justaname »

Cunha's agent seems to be pretty busy lately.

Hertha's sporting director recently had this to say on Cunha:
"His agent came over to have a chat. He's been all over Europe. It was a good talk. I told him that I'm very happy to have Matheus on our team. He's our best player. But he has to change a couple of things or he's going to run into problems no matter where he plays. (...)
If he commits to Hertha then we don't even have to worry about him. If he wants to move on then only if the price is right. It's actually quite simple - either you fully commit to the club and work hard or you show us an option that would make sense. My impression was that his agent appreciated that. It was a clear message, he can work with that. And it's not like there are currently 20 clubs queueing up for him. "

Seems to be a growing number of whispers.

Is this genuine?

Or another club link of an unrealistic transfer (Adams, Aaronson, Gakpo)?

Cant see him wanting to play for us

Usual Radz deflection tactic as we end up with no one.

I doubt it.

Prepare yourselves for a couple of U21s which won't be any use to us this season.

Re: Matheus Cunha- Potentially close to Wolves transfer

David Ornstein has cast doubt on Wolves pursuit of Cunha.

Also said this

There is serious interest, too, from Leeds United. They tried to get Cunha before he went to Atletico from Hertha Berlin in the summer of 2021 and he knows their head coach Jesse Marsch from their time together at another German club, RB Leipzig, in 2018-19. Having narrowly missed out on Cody Gakpo of PSV Eindhoven and the Netherlands in the summer, Leeds know how important it is to pounce before players they want in the market become out of reach for them.

In fairness Ornstein is reliable as they come and I don't doubt we hold interest in many players in the same way I hold interest in a deep passionate affair with Margot Robbie.

However Cunha left Leipzig in January 2020.

Marsch didn't join until July 2021

Radz has him on speed dial for attention and PR and Ornstein gets clicks and retweets from Leeds fans. Both win.

I'm as suspicious as you and if we haven't deals done very early January then I'd be disappointed.

But I don't doubt the Interest.

One thing Ornstein doesn't do is clickbait, he doesn't need to.

Unlike you to not do your homework. JM was an assistant coach at Leipzig under Rangnick when Cunha was there.
