So we'll have relegated Burnley, filled a gap in the squad with a proven PL striker, comfortably achieved safety, then moved him on for an outlay of just £5m.

Short answer is intelligent, intense pressing.

Add some good recruitment;
Pope is a great shot stopper, good coming off his line to sweep up, and decent in distribution.
Trippier is phenomenal, best right back I've seen at the club in at least 20 years, maybe more.
Botman is a Rolls Royce of a defender, still hasn't lost a game in the PL.
Big Dan Burn has been a revelation at LB. He starts in that position but as Trippier bombs on, he tucks in a little more to operate as an ersatz 3rd CB.

Away from them;
You've got wingers on either flank who defend and press from their 6' yard box all the way back to ours, while also providing pace and options in transition.

The midfield all press, all look for the striker or winger sand all provide support in attack.

The striker never gives the centrebacks a moments rest.

Howe has them all incredibly fit, motivated and educated.
