one 1962 and the other in the 1970s" being demolished.
My question was There was a Live Peacock on the Centre Circle at Elland Road that was quick and elusive, hard to catch. What was the occasion ??

I remember watching Peacock, Weston, Storrie, Albert etc in the 60's, all ploughing their way through the mud on what was laughably called the pitch at Elland Road.

Those were the days when in the winter the only grass showing was by the corner flags.
the rest was a sea of mud. At the end some of the players were almost covered in mud

One winter at Elland Road the snow covered the pitch and over the loud speakers came on
an appeal for volunteers to help clear the touch lines and other lines on the pitch.
They gave them a shovel each and as it was early there were not many folks that did so.
My Brother and I jumped over the wall, they gave us a brush each to sweep after the lines
after it had been shoveled away. Then a machine came round and sprayed the lines. blue, maybe red
we went back over the wall at the Elland Road that was covered end, real luxury as normally we would be at the open end ( Now the Kop)
Could hardly walk up Wesley Street to our Aunts, ached all over

When we heard that the men had been a ticket for the next home game we went to the players and officials entrance to see if we could have one each. The man on the door was a man Jack who wore a long blue coat with gold coloured cuff, We knew him, a real ba***rd
he shouted something and showed the stick he always carried
After a home game about a dozen or so lads including us would stand just inside the Main
Gate hoping to get an autograph, This Doorman Jack used to come out carrying his big stick
and threaten us with it until we out on Elland Road, quite sure he would have used it if he had got near enough.

Maybe just needed a "Memory Lane" or "Leeds nostalgia" thread..No good to me, I tend to forget about the game just gone let alone past games. Even the ones I was at.

I came across a pre Premier League twitter thread which shows clips from BBC and ITV.
Been watching quite a few Leeds games and as some of the players were slightly before my time I wondered how good the likes of our ‘cover’ players Mick Bates, Rod Belfit, etc were?
Thought Leon and Volvo might have more of an idea.

Selhurst Park still is a poor stadium,

Peacock was a prolific goalscorer, such a shame injuries finally curtailed his appearances at Leeds & causing Alan to retire in the end.

Ian Lawson was another one of Revie's forwards, had a 1in 3 scoring ratio, at Leeds.

Terry Hibbitt was another Revie babe in the same mould

He played over 60 games for Leeds, then went on to play 300+ games for Newcastle & Birmingham,

Sadly, died far too young, in his forties.

His brother Kenny was an even better footballer for Wolves.

In hindsight, with 55-65 games a season in all competitions because we were so good and one substitute only, maybe we should have used them more than we did?
