Dirty Leeds no more?

Post by YorkshireSquare »

Leeds have collectively been the best tackling side in the Premier League this year.

Leeds can claim to be the cleanest tackling team in England’s top flight this season. Recent data shows that Bielsa’s men have shaken off the “dirty Leeds” tag as United have made 653 tackles this year and just 386 fouls, meaning their foul-to-tackle ratio is just 0.591, which is the lowest in the Premier League.

Leeds’ closest competitor in terms of tackling efficiency is Southampton, who make 0.593 fouls per tackle, followed then by Everton and Leicester, who have ratios of 0.606 and 0.607, respectively. The Peacocks’ 653 tackles in total also mean they’re the Premier League side who have made the most tackles, with Arsenal being the side who has made the least (409).

Leeds’ defender Luke Ayling has certainly contributed to both Leeds’ high number of tackles as well as efficient tackling. Ayling has made 94 tackles, more than any other Premier League player, and is in fact the eighth most-efficient tackler, with just 0.277 fouls per tackle. Fellow full back Tyrick Mitchell is the most-efficient defender in the league, as the Crystal Palace man has on average made just 0.146 fouls per tackle.

So true Swannie Fernandhino and Sterling should both have been red carded that game...
