Your Perfect Festival

Post by gessa »

WR's gig thread, got me thinking again, if you could have your ideal 3 day, 1 stage festival. 7 artists each day, not necessarily your favourite 21 artists but who you think would make a great 3 day experience.
As it's fantasy, they can be live or dead and from different era's.
What would yours be?

Mine consists of 17 bands I've seen and 4 I've seen live performances from on tv.

b]Day 1[/b]

Hurray for the Riff Raff- some quality folk blues to start the proceedings
UFO- a bit of nostalgia from a band that never failed to deliver a great live set.
Blind Melon- another great live band.
Tom Petty- and another great performer.
Placebo- Great song after great song, what's not to like.
AC/DC (Bon Scott) - If you want Rock- you've got it.
Black Sabbath- more nostalgia from the first rock band I was really in to.

,Day 2

Slade- after seeing them at Reading '80, I can't think of a better band to open a Saturday
The Blue Aeroplanes- continue the good feel vibe.
The Allah Las - some great Americana for that afternoon chill.
The National- because I need to see them.
Patti Smith- let's start to create the frenzy for the rest of the night
Rory Gallagher- Because he was perfect live.
Pearl Jam - They just have to be a headliner for me

Day 3

Franz Nicolay(acoustic) nothing too heavy after the early hours partying.
The Dead South - time to pick up the atmosphere again, can't think of many better to do that.
The Saw Doctors - Never fail to deliver a perfect performance.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard- if there's a better live band presently, I'd love to see them.
Jimi Hendrix - I just need to see him perform.
Nick Cave - never seen an artist own the stage as he does, the perfect performer
Led Zeppelin- some will argue but the ultimate headliner for me (and Hector)

Many more miss out

I'm going to be editing mine for a while ..Placebo needs to be on the first day and I would rather see bands that I want to see and didn't/haven't

Of mine I've seen Frank, Metallica and Sum 41 who were the most fun

Also added Spirit to day 2 as Randy California is the 2nd greatest guitarist ever

If it were in the middle of nowhere and warm summers night then get the Ozrics to play form 1 am till about 4

Was difficult leaving Placebo out, they were next on the list. Tomorrow I may have to edit.
Or should I have done it as a 3 day festival?

There should be a Friday

Nice you have Franz on there, I got EW slightly hooked last week..Dead South would have to be the original line up?

Forgot the Fun Lovin' Criminals they'd have to be a must as there's no one like Huey

And if there were an indoor bar or venue then Dr Feelgood/Ian Dury would come into play

Let's go for 3 days then.
Yes to the DS original line up.
I've seen so much of Franz live on you tube, he has to be on there, his lockdown stuff was exceptional

Perhaps if this gets a decent response, then we can do a smallish indoor venue.

250,000 people at £250 per ticket get the bands to play for an average of £250k each, jobs a good un, catering etc can pay for all the other costs . Then I'd be nearly as rich as you ;-)

I wrote a list out of my head and came up with 50 or so. Getting it down to a 3 day, 21 artist event was really difficult.
Looking at my choices it appears that I don't like really heavy stuff.

Day 1

Leonard Cohen - Can't sing but love his songs/poetry
Richard Thompson - Wonderful songs and guitarist
Joe Cocker - Mad Dogs and Englishmen one of the best live albums
Billy Joel - Great songs about life
Elvis - has to be the young Elvis
Bowie - Albums and songs and a bit of performance art too
Nice - Keith Emerson was the best

Day 2

Joan Armatrading - love her voice
Incredible String Band - one of my favorite folk type bands
Police - Really enjoy Sting with or without the band
Jethro Tull - A flute in a rock band?
Prince - Wonderful music and performer. Saw him once and the sound was horrible. I'll give him another chance!
Queen - with Freddie of course
Hendrix - maybe he'll do The Star Spangled Banner for Trump

Day 3

Cream - what a great sound. Disraeli Gears was my introduction to real music.
Cranberries - Sing it again Dolores. What a voice
King Crimson - best live show I've seen
The Who - Great entertainers and great performances. Original band please.
John Lennon - My favorite Beatle. Full of humor and anger.
Elton John - Never seen a bad performance from him. Will keep you rocking and singing for a couple of hours.
Pink Floyd - Without Syd. I think he held them back with his quirky pop tunes.

Not easy and looking at other people's lists, I know I've missed some great artists out.
