Lest We forget

Post by Smudge3920 »

No disrespect to any others who served on the site, please add your cap badges... I only know of Hector's at this time... This is to all those who did not return home, who gave their all... May they rest in Peace for Eternity

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

I did the London to Paris bike ride in 2014 and on day 3 of 4 we stopped at the Theipval monument and museum in the Somme region.
The most humbling experience of my life reading about the details of the conflict and those who sacrificed their life.
The monument itself is awe inspiring.
RIP.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Extinction Rebellion protesters have hung a climate change banner and placed a wreath at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Day.

Sorry I missed this thread somehow.

To all those who fell, and to those who served and have since fallen, lest we forget.

Sadly Leon, this is the problem... the sacrifice made in the 1st & 2nd WW's and since was made by those willing to sacrifice for those tw*ts to have the "freedom of speech"...As Voltaire said ..." I may disagree with what you say , but will defend to the death your right to say it"... It is just a shame that those tw*ts did/do not show the same decency and respect to those who are willing to sacrifice for them... No need to paste memorials with banners such as those. Many places for them to protest and demonstrate.

I agree with you Leon - they are somehow cheapening the Remembrance by equating many veterans' deaths with someone creating atmospheric sins - an abomination in the context.
Their message about climate change may be appropriate but don't hijack Remembrance Day.
