One of our few consistent players this season.

Illan just improves with every game, I thought Meslier commanded his box exceptionally well last night, his distribution of a high standard too.

Most saves in the PL this season so far this season.

22 Illan Meslier
19 Hugo Lloris
19 Kasper Schmeichel
16 Edouard Mendy
16 Vicente Guaita

Our defence will always keep our young keeper busy  I really feel sorry for him at times.

Thank god we have Illan between the sticks, our season would have been much worse without this young man.

Illan Meslier vs. Fulham:

83% distribution
56 touches
38/46 successful passes
8 recoveries
7 saves :fire:
4 diving saves :clape:
1 penalty shootout save

More heroics from the Leeds’ number one.

He's a top top keeper already with his best years still a few years ahead of him. Thankyou Kiko.

Probably the best £5 million we have spent.

How good was Meslier, yesterday?

I reckon he made around ten saves, four or five crucial stops.
Not at fault for any of the four goals.
No protection from his colleagues whatsoever
Showed his despair at his teammates, often throwing up his arms in the air.
God help us if we lose this fella.
Unsure how our young keeper will be feeling this morning, really feel sorry for him.

Don't know how long his contract is but he needs to be tied down on a long one but I reckon he's one of many who'll leave if we're relegated.

I thought he had signed a new contract earlier this year or last year :duno:

Not sure but we need to try to hold on to him regardless but going down will make it extremely difficult unless he's paid handsomely.

This us goalkeeping of the highest quality (also helps being 6ft6).
Taken some stick Illan.

Not undeserved as he absolutely does have mistakes in him (as one so young will).

But saves like this today and the one from erm Watkins was it?

Kind of think maybe if he isn't so badly exposed as he was most of last season and isn't being forced into 55 saves per game he will do OK.

My opinion last season, all down to his more experienced colleagues around Meslier giving him no protection in many games.

Koch & Davis got caught out for the Watkins save.

Against Brisbane, Koch & Struijk got caught out a couple of times, Llorente is also suspect with balls over the top. Our international CB's need to get their act together, no excuses this season.

World-class saves today from Illan.

Didn't see the game today, but that is world class goalkeeping. I still have concerns about his positioning and distribution but, as Cjay says, if he's afforded a bit more protection by the defence, he'll be grand.

He's only 22.

Sign him to a long-term contract as soon as possible. He already better than the average EPL keeper in his overall game (with flashes of brilliance like the two today) and he's still five years shy of the prime of his career.

I thought he was fantastic against Villa. Really good reactions/double save on the penalty. That Watkins one on one was world class. The way he managed to palm it over the bar from so far out.

Unless we pull off a miracle top 6 season this year, I think Ilan will be off to one of the big European teams this time next year.

I recall he blocked one v WH but the rebound was tucked away.

Played well today

I think he will be with us for a few years. I can't see big club buying him yet as he isn't good enough so they will wait until he, hopefully, turns into a great keeper and then buy him.

What's with this BIG club mentality folks. Rich club, RICH club, please, not big club. There are big clubs (including us) who just don't have the mega bucks that some clubs have.....
