I think British teams generally struggle against coaches and technically gifted players that take a different approach to football.

Things are not so predictable and you can clearly see that foreign players are not just these athletic machines like Rice and Gallagher who just run and tackle. We churn out players like that by the dozen and any talented ones have their ability trained out of them.

Emery is usually a craft operator, and I know the Villa fans adore him, but he got caught out last night.

Nice to see Xabi Alonso doing so well and proof that you don't need to have Megabucks to succeed, it's exciting and refreshing.
Always makes me wonder why our lot bang on about the premier league being the best league in the world....TV lot I mean.

Well you look at some of the talented/flair players we've had over the years: Alan Hudson, Tony Currie, Trevor Brooking, Glenn Hoddle, and Jack Grealish, there are always questions about their work rate. I particularly remember that was the case with Hoddle, "he doesn't tackle, or run around, or put a shift in". So what? We had Peter Reid, Steve Hodge and Steve Perryman, etc, limited Forshaw style workhorses to run around and chase people, but they couldn't do what Glenn could do.

We've continually focused on producing these athletic, running, and tackling machines: Declan Rice, Owen Hargreaves, Connor Gallagher, Ross Barkley, Scott McTominay, KP. Yes, you need players to win and carry the ball, but that can't be the sum total of your central midfield.

If you look at Croatia with Modric, or in the past Bulgaria with Hristo Stoichkov, these are generational talents and legendary players who were given the freedom to go out and create and win matches. Stoichkov is still idolized here, and should be, Bulgarians wouldn't expect him to be running around pressing and tackling like a nutter, when his skill was with the ball at his feet.

Olympiakos have completely owned Villa in these two legs.

6-2 on aggregate

2-0 on the night.

Not even the current Greek Champions, Aek Athens are under former managerial target Matias Almeyda.

Fair play Olympiakos.
