Re: Album of 1980 (II) - VOTE NOW!
Cure
Echo & the Bunnymen
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Elvis Costello
Dexys
I thought Crocodiles had been taken last time but now I remember it was my other option at the time.

Great debut by the Bunnies Finn.
Played it, and the other first five albums to death at the time.
I remember John Peel playing The Pictures On My Wall, and I was hooked, bought it and Rescue as singles and then the LP.
Was lucky enough to see them live in 1980.

Have you heard the first Peel session they did when they had the Echo box before De Freitas joined?White Riot wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 2:24 pm Great debut by the Bunnies Finn.

I probably play those four tracks more than the albums, Read it in Books is better than the album version imo.

Yes, mate
They did a session for Peel and played a really great version of The Back Of Love, which was titled something different at the time, maybe Taking Advantage Of?
I loved that arrangement, when they brought the single out I was disappointed as it sounded like a disco song

Two absolute greats for me, the Cure's masterpiece and Dexy's jaw dropping debut, then some very goods... I was never a fan of the NWOBHM to be honest...

Re: Album of 1980 (II) - Azkal, BB & MJ to NOMINATE
Not a poor year by any means as I own 18 of the albums nominated over the two 1980 rounds, but not great imo! I rarely go back to the majority of the early 80's albums. Perhaps if I was ten years younger, I'd feel different about that period of music.Muppet the Cat wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 6:36 pm I think there’s some really good albums across both those lists, 64. Certainly a lot better than some years.
