We’re heading up to the Moors today, lovely aren’t they 64? But shhhhhh don’t tell everyone we don’t want them being overrun with blo@dy tourists!
Should have kept my gob shut on here but the Moors are so beautiful, thinking of going to the other side of the NYM beyond Helmsley over Thirsk way on Friday.
We’re only 15mins away from Helmsley so we went, as we usually do, north from there via Carlton up to Cockayne, stopping off for a nice refreshing walk on route. It’s usually very quiet with very few people and mostly sheep for company - we’re so lucky to live in this neck of the woods.

We had a fabulous lunch in Carlton about 15 years ago, it was a restaurant in pretty street, looked like you were entering someone's house not a eating place, probably closed now
This morning I played C & F chords on my toy plastic Ukulele from the 1950's
and recited a poem by Charles Bukowski about a white cross eyed, toothless
detailed cat and how it survived being run over. It is the history of one tough motherfucker.
Where there is a will there is a way.
I went to the Pleasure Beach in Blackpool yesterday. Christ it was busy. They said it would be reduced capacity when i booked. I had this vision of no ques and just strolling on and off rides. The only thing that was reduced was the capacity on the rides themselves creating long (and i mean long) ques. Add to that, the staff were cleaning down the rides in between and you get the gist.
I wanted to leave after a hour, but i was held captive by the 3 female family members i was with, and for my sins and attitude (their summery, not mine) became the bag and jumper watch man, stood for ages in solitude in the baking heat. What a day.

Riding on an NYMR train is one event I have always shown to any of Debbie's family members who visited England's green and pleasant land Leon. Practically a religious experience.
Heading over Thirsk way today via the scenic route, Malton, Hovingham, Ampleforth, etc, hopefully have a bit of lunch in the garden of Byland Abbey Inn

Photos up later....
Been golfing this morning 64, but if I hadn’t been you could have popped in to our place for a cuppa - only 4 miles from Byland Abbey

I may hold you that invitation one day Byebye
We were a bit disappointed as the pub facing the abbey seems to have gone, think it's now a hotel or the house is used for wedding ceremonies, etc
Anyway we ended up Thirsk, sat in the garden of the Golden Fleece hotel for a coffee & lemon drizzle cake (delicious). Jill bought a couple of nice presents for friends & something for herself from a nice gift shop so she was happy Onto to the Cedar Barn just outside Pickering for a bit of lunch, egg mayonnaise sandwiches & salad (really fresh) plus a cuppa. Drove through the Wolds & had a little walk on our way back home.
I think it is a licensed tea room/cafe these days, hasn’t been a pub for 3 or 4 years now. I’m pretty sure it’s open at the moment though. Anyway glad you had a nice day and Thirsk is a pleasant little town.
