Welcome to the Racing Thread, Adi
In essence we have two separate comps, as you've probably picked up from the previous few pages.
Firstly, the
Daily NAP Competition running Mon-Fri and Sunday.
The rules are pretty simple - just pick any runner from any UK or Ireland (only) race meeting, turf or AW, that day and wager either £10 win or £5 ew. Stating the obvious I know, but selection to be posted up before the published race off time.
Winnings then totted up over the month, so 12 monthly winners and the highest amount at the end of the year taking the annual crown (which last year was Lufc1304 (Nick)).
Secondly, we have the
Saturday Comp - if you scroll back a couple of pages you'll see the format from last weekend. This is split across the year into a separate National Hunt Comp and Flat Season Comp
The rules for these are:
1. Each player starts the comp with a £600 virtual pot. (although if you're joining in mid-season I'll allocate you a proportional amount)
2. In the week leading up to the Saturday I'll post up the
main meeting of the week (which will normally be the main televised ITV Racing meeting),
where a minimum of 3 races are to be bet on. Horses from other meetings can be bet on - a
minimum of 6 in total (all 6 can come from the main meeting - using other meetings is optional). If less than 6 races are selected your entry for that Saturday will be considered void and a £50 penalty imposed.
3. Only horses from jump/flat (depending which comp we're in) racing meetings run on
turf in the UK and Ireland can be selected -
no All Weather tracks.
4. If a
player misses a week, unless previously agreed, then
£50 will be taken off their total winnings for that week.
5. A player
can bet any amount each week, as long it does not take them into the red.
6. If a player has less than £50 of their pot remaining, they will be allowed to go into the red to a maximum of £50. If a player stays in the red then the maximum wager that week can only total £50.
7. The
minimum allowable bet is £2.50 ew or £5 win.
Also within the year there will be separate 'Festival' Comps (so no Daily NAP Comp or Saturday Comp within the Festival period) - obviously next week there will be a Cheltenham Festival Comp and separate rules for that will be posted up shortly.
That gives you a canter through - all pretty self explanatory really and lets be honest if you managed betting shops you know far more about it all than me

.............for example, what the heck is a "Canadian" ???....is that a sort of bet ?
You can just enter the Daily NAP, just the Saturday Comp (like Foxy) or both, like the rest of us....up to you.
Some prefer the Saturday comp, some the Daily NAP comp (well I do) and some (64 for one) the festival comps......horses for courses, I guess.
You will be our newest recruit on the thread since, Ken....who I'm sure would confirm that we're all a friendly, welcoming bunch in this little oasis of calm, within the wider MOT site
