Have been listening to all these over the last week or so. There are far more I've never heard (certainly all the way through) than I have, so a bit of a journey into the unknown - with some being 'hit' and some being 'miss'

Quite a few I liked the odd track, but couldn't take to the whole album.

5pts - Hilary Woods 'Colt'
4pts - Courtney Barnett 'Tell Me How You Really Feel'
3pts - All Them Witches 'ATW'
2pts - Myles Kennedy 'Year of the Tiger' Gandi
1pt - Five Finger Death Punch 'And Justice For None' Haighy

Revisiting the great John Martyn this week has me thinking that Ryley Walker is in that class.

Listened to 14 of the albums in full with a few songs from the rest & to my surprise I'm voting for two albums I hadn't considered when the nominations came in.

One that really has impressed me is the the album 'Deafman Glance' which I had previously heard in one of the annual polls a couple of years ago. At the time I thought it was quite nice, this week this particular album has been on my playlist several times, DG gets better with each listen, a real grower. Even Mrs 64 is quite impressed

Ryley Walker 'Deafman Glance'
Masta Ace + Marco Polo 'A Breukelen Story'
Car Seat Headrest 'Twin Fantasy (Face to Face)'
Nils Petter Molvaar & Sly & Robbie 'Nordub'
Kamasi Washington 'Heaven and Earth'

Deafman's Glance is a stunner from beginning to end imo. I loved Telluride Speed from the first time I heard it at work on Radio 6 music, bought the album on the back of it..Glad you came round 64, it's well worth the ride..A modern reinvention of John Martyn as mentioned before. But it is easy to overlook as Castle Doom is a downbeat but very under rated piece that doesn't really invite you in to the rest of the album. By the time you get to Can't ask Why (very slow build before it explodes almost Radiohead esque)/Opposite Middle/Telluride Speed you should be hooked.

Expired is my favourite track though with it's Elbow like pathos and it ends with the excellent Spoil With the Rest. I love the voice and vocals and he's a master guitarist to boot

To have comparisons with John Martyn, Radiohead & Elbow, you can't go wrong imo!

Deafman Glance is on it's way to the Wolds in the next few days :)

Ryley's next best album Faaip?
