Re: Player Profile : Pascal Struijk

Definitely retain him and hope he continues to develop. Hard to really judge him yet but did okay in the minutes he played. Rating: 7 Can't believe people knocking Bielsa for not playing more youth players. He was hired to get us promoted not to simply play as many young players as he could. We flo...

Re: Player Profile : Pascal Struijk

Comments made without a knowledge or appreciation of Bielsa's protectiveness of youth players' bodies and especially minds. He will never subject them to more pressure and expectation than he thinks they can handle, as such things can ruin careers before they begin. Is this indicative of the risk-a...

Re: The "Summer" Transfer Window 20/21 season

but I seem to recall that nobody complained at the time that we couldnt afford these players. I knew Ridsdale personally in those days, and his biggest fault was that he was a fan of the club, desperately wanting success....O'Leary then says with just one or 2 more players we could become worldbeat...

Re: The "Summer" Transfer Window 20/21 season

sorry, i think you are being terribly unfair to george graham, it was he who built the academy up. O'Leary just inherited the good fruit borne by Graham's efforts. So, O'Leary had a ready made team of youngsters. It was only when he started buying new players that we started to slip. His first real...

Re: The "Summer" Transfer Window 20/21 season

Graham did f*ck all with the academy. It was all down to Wilko's 10 year plan with the youth academy and those youngsters came through towards the end of Wilko's 10 year plan. As regards buying players for the U23s it is always going to be a bit hit and miss with young players. You don't know how t...

Re: The "Summer" Transfer Window 20/21 season

Agreed. The only youth players who've had a proper look in the last two seasons, have been Shack and Clarke, neither of whom were bought. I'd hate to see us neglecting our academy, as that's always been a huge part of our history. Our sudden rise to prominence under both Revie and O'Leary was mainl...

Re: The "Summer" Transfer Window 20/21 season

But those players were homegrown in the academy not bought in from elsewhere. Is our academy really that bad now that we can't develop our own? What about Kenneh, Jenkins, Hudson, McCalmont etc who've been highly rated for years? It looks like we're just trying to copy Chelsea and Man City and hoar...

Re: Player Profile : Pascal Struijk

Squad player for now, but with the potential to become a starter. 7/10 Contrary to popular opinion, Bielsa doesn't give youth that much of a chance. Certainly not anything like in the way that David O'Leary did during his time as manager. This, and his unswerving loyalty to Paddy are the only two th...

Re: Our front three...

I'm sure all of us want to be a top six Premiership side, and not just surviving. But a little realism needs to be considered. Most or all of the top six sides this season, have been in the Premiership for years - spending vast amounts of the TV money the've received each year, on bolstering their ...

With you there Chapel. We were a top 3 1st division side (some would say a top 1) for most of the late 60s early 70s, so I hope we see promotion to the Premier league as just the start and not end of our ambitions.

Re: Our front three...

It's crazy how people try to justify things. Our 5-0 win made our goal total look better. Yeah that's what happens. Brentford's 7-0 in v a disjointed Luton giving them gifts helped their goal total too you know. Brentford were a flat track bully preying on weaker teams. Their BMW went missing again...

Thanks Norm - so OG accounts for more than 10% of our total goal tally, and half the total of our leading scorer.

Re: Our front three...

Our front three got us promoted. Our midfield got us promoted. Our defence got us promoted. Our goalkeeper got us promoted. Our bench got us promoted. Our coach got us promoted. Our owners got us promoted. Norwich fans could have said exactly the same thing prior to the start of last season. Surely...

Re: Our front three...

At the end of the day Brentford's front three scored 59, whereas our front three didn't even manage half that amount. It's a strange situation to have three pretty poor finishers as our front men. We probably wont be able to rely too much on the assistance of OG next season either - 7 goals, which ...

Re: Our front three...

Sheffield Utd's top scorer last season? McBurnie with 6 (1 goal every 391 minutes played) and Mousset also with 6 (1 every 229 minutes played). It shows that you don't need to have a prolific forward. If Bamford got 10 next season in many ways it would represent an excellent season (as long as othe...

Re: Our front three...

I agree with all this Hereford. It’s true that Bamford’s all round game suits Bielsa’s system, he runs around tirelessly closing down anywhere and everywhere in the opponents half, making decoy runs to distract defenders etc and is often found in defence heading the ball away at corners, so it’s no...

Our front three...

So our current front three - Bamford, Costa and Harrison managed a grand total of 26 goals last season ( 16 for Bamford, 6 for Harrison and 4 for costa ) If you add the combined total of appearances for all three players, it comes to a grand total of 134. So that works out at an average of one goal ...

Re: Player Profile : Ezgjan Alioski

Agree Andrew  If we sign a LB & make a few other signings how the heck is Alio even going to find a place on the bench? I'm happy for him to stay but he struggled to gain a first-team place in our championship team, even Douglas got the nod above him from the bench on a couple of occasions Ove...

Re: The "Summer" Transfer Window 20/21 season

I think that certainly Radrizani deserves some credit for turning things around, let’s face it he could not possibly have been as bad as recent previous owners, but he was very green and naive when he 1st came in, appointing a string of astonishingly poor managers, but got right eventually, with th...
