The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thursday 4th April) Championship in uproar after true extent of Leicester accounts disclosed
Good Morning. It's Thursday 4th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road…
Championship in uproar after true extent of LCFC accounts disclosed
Championship clubs including Leeds Utd have reacted with outrage after the true extent of Leicester City's financial mess was disclosed on Tuesday.
Foxes Chief Executive Susan Whelan delivered the news during a press release, revealing a pre-tax loss of £89.7m, on the back of a record £92.5m loss the season before.
Investigations have shown that the East Midlands outfit had the highest wage bill outside of the Premier League's top six last season, plus none of their players had relegation clauses in their contracts.
Therefor, Leicester City's wage bill this season stands at £60,190,000, considerably higher than Southampton (£40,014,000) and Leeds (£39,513,000) or ten times higher than the likes of Rotherham Utd and Plymouth Argyle!
It also allowed Leicester City more leverage when negotiating the departures of James Maddison (£46.3m) and Harvey Barnes (£44m), even though they only had one and two years respectively left on their contracts.
Gruev on the mend
Leeds-live have this morning suggested that Ilia Gruev has returned to training ahead of the Whites visit to Coventry City at the weekend.
The 23yo midfielder missed the games against Watford and Hull City after injuring his ankle whilst on International duty with Bulgaria. The news comes on the back of Manchester Evening News reporter Conor McGilligan revealing yesterday (on his One Leeds Fan YouTube channel) that Gruev is expected to be passed fit to play on Saturday afternoon.
Daniel Farke should reveal all during his pre-match press conference later today, including Glen Kamara (illness) and Joe Rodon (back spasms) who got through the Hull City match aided by pain killing injections.
James to re-find mojo after wonder strike
Dan James' audacious strike against Hull on Easter Monday may give him the shot in the arm needed to re-find his mojo.
The 26yo hasn't hit the form we've been used to, since coming back from International Duty with Wales. Rob Page's Dragon's lost a penalty shoot out (to Poland) and the chance to play at the Euro's this Summer, after James failed to convert from twelve yards.
Scoring is one thing, but scoring from the half-way line, whilst being chased by half a dozen deranged Hull players is something else. Anyone who has watched the Crossbar Challenge will know how difficult it is to even hit the target from that far out from a stationary position!

No relegation clauses. Interesting.
So Leicester players & agents just couldn’t see themselves going down.

If Leicester have broken the rules, whatever punishment is deemed necessary, should be administered immediately regardless of what league the offences occurred in.
They will end up with a points deduction no doubt, but it won't be until next season.
Hopefully Gruev is fit enough to start on Saturday. DF to give more details later.

And of course the main news is the Under 18's FA Youth Cup Semi Final at home to Millwall. It's live on the FA player starting at 7. You need to sign up

I'd imagine they'd weigh the odds, Leicester had been a top 10 side for a while... The relegation clauses we added were perfectly fine and necessary. I'd imagine Raph had one. It's the norm.

On the back of an FA cup win, two profitable European campaigns and then finishing eighth in the PL I doubt that was on the radar.
Unfortunately for Leicester they invested heavily in trying to become the best of the rest (their words) and it backfired.
A cautionary tale for others.

Susan Whealen caught on tape in a Lester pub
We went with the Ridsdale model of invest to impress, but didn't go for the aquarium with goldfish so we thought we would be ok, just one solitary guppy in a big round bowl.
We had a clause in the player's contracts saying that if we got relegated they would get a years supply of Walker's crisps cheese and onion, we thought if it was good enough for Gary then the players would accept it.
It was agreed that if I gave out the end of year statement we might get away with it. If there was any objections we could then play the white male privilege card and that the decision was a direct attack on feminism, but it appears we have misread the political climate.
Perhaps we should have got Greta to be our spokesperson and she could have explained that it was climate change that had detrimental effects on our finances.

Ralph had a 25 million relegation release clause - it was the talk of the town at the time. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 8:24 am I'd imagine they'd weigh the odds, Leicester had been a top 10 side for a while... Leeds don't help themselves.
They didn't even bother getting a sell on clause with Raphinha who has been linked with a 70m move to Saudi in the Summer.
I bet we don't have one for Leif Davis either. He must be a £30m player now!

To me it's another good reason to leave him in control for at least 2-3 years, he has already highlighted the shite contract situ he inherited, and strikes me with his comments, that he's gonna be v much hands on re player deals in's and out's.
I more than happy up to now with how he comes across, we should be thankful for where we're at in his short tenure.
Club management is a lot more than just sending a team out, I hope we leave him and them to it, coz i feel he has the last shout on 'stuff'.....and doesn't wear a red nose or appear a bully.
Not dependent on Google, the www or 'stats' - Just a guy that puts his eyes to full use on the beautiful game

So we don't get 2.4M from a Raph sell on. Who cares?Ellandback1 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 11:02 am Leeds don't help themselves.

Davis is worth 6M.
I used Forbes and transfermrkt to get my numbers.

Not in the current era, but Steve was in the bowl at Lester in 2004, before he moved to Leeds United where he played 3 games and scored 1 goal. It was a strange sight to see a goldfish in a Leeds strip scoring a goal, about as rare a sight as Glenn Kamara scoring a goal.
But those were the naughties... and the unthinkable was happening all the time.
Dennis Wise managing Leeds unthinkable...relegation unthinkable, we were all believing 5 impossible things before breakfast.

Guppy’s, goldfish in Leeds kit, got no problem with that but Leaf Davis a 30 million pound player
He’d probably score 30 million quids worth of own goals in fairness.

Davis is the best left back in the Championship by a Country mile! They'll get at least 20m for him.
We're talking about 15% which is probably average for a sell on fee these days. If Rapha goes for 70m, that's the best part of 10m.

How is 10M 15% of 12M?Ellandback1 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 04, 2024 1:28 pm Davis is the best left back in the Championship by a Country mile! They'll get at least 20m for him.

The sell on fee is a percentage of the PROFIT made when the player moves to a new club. It is not a percentage of the whole amount.
And glad you dropped your evaluation of Davis by 30% there, keep going and we might agree that he would fetch 10-15 from the likes of Bournemouth or Brentford
