Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 26th March) - Dutch media predicting €40m Summerville exit

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Tuesday 26th March, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...

€40m exit speculated over Leeds star
Süleyman Öztürk, the editor of Dutch media outlet Voetbal International has spoken out about Crysencio Summerville, and along with top predictions from top betting experts banks on a big money move away from Elland Road this Summer. Summerville has been an inspiration this season. Switching him to play an inverted winger / third striker role has paid dividends. So far this season, the 22 year old has contributed sixteen goals, and 8 assists. With a 'Whoscored' average rating of 7.70, is the best player in the Championship. Jack Clarke is second, team mate Georginio Rutter third, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall fourth.

Öztürk predicts that Summerville will be snapped up this Summer by a top European side for around €40m (£34.3m). Chelsea, Liverpool and Aston Villa have all been linked with the tricky winger, but Leeds will want to keep hold of their prized asset. He has just over two years remaining on his contract.

He is one of the best strikers in the Championship, from next season we will see him at a top club. He is going to make a transfer, there is no other way. I would like to see him at a higher level. He has developed fantastically over the past six months. He is fast and good on the outside, but also as a number ten. I think it should cost around forty million euros. He has become truly priceless [unaffordable] for a club like Feyenoord, one of the best players in the Championship.”

Italian scout lords Championship bargains

An Italian scout (who does not wish to be named) has claimed that there is a lot of untapped talent in the Championship, available at reasonable prices. The statement comes following news that AC Milan made a last ditch £5m bid for Leeds defender Charlie Cresswell during the January transfer window. Unfortunately for the Italian giants, a deal came too late in the day to get considered properly by the Elland Road board. With so many promoted clubs bouncing straight back to the Championship after one season comes a somewhat stigmatized opinion, that talent outside the Premier League is sub-standard, and is therefor available at knock down prices.

The Championship has a big record for generating talent and it's a fast-paced league with lots of matches. There is a feeling that it is underrated in England and has produced many top players that now play in the Premier League but the talent is not hugely expensive. It's not just about Jude but English players have also been successful in Serie A, guys like Chris Smalling, Ruben Loftus Cheek, Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham. They did not come directly from the Championship but these players also did not receive the appreciation they deserved in England.

In my utopian head I would love the see the backbone of this current side stay together for at least one season should we be promoted Then we can see what we they will achieve together. Slightly romantic thinking which is massively lost in football. With that thought why wouldn't Crys stay and see what we can achieve. He's certainly good enough to cut it at PL level (along with a good number of others in the 1st team).

Cresswell - why doesn't he get the chance to step up? I think there is an excellent player in there and I would hate to see him leave. If Rodon stays then one CB place taken, Struijk returns (but we don't know how he will be), Cresswell becomes the third CB given Amps moves up to DMF.

Could we spend it though.... I'll amend that, could we spend it well though ?

That will always be the question.

Been busy of late and haven’t looked at the website for over a week.

With Cry there are 2 major issues that need to play out. First we need to get promoted and then offer him a new contract. If he does not want to sign then the prudent action would be to sell. With two years remaining on his current contract we start to lose the a strong negotiating perspective on any deal if we allow the contract to run down and retain him next season.

If all the ducks get in a row and he signs a new contract that would be the perfect scenario for me.

We need to keep as many of our leading players as possible next season - (that's assuming promotion, if not we're losing our top players regardless)

Projecting next season. We have 3 on loan. We have a few expiring contracts. And (if promoted) we have a few that can't even get in the championship side. That's with a squad that already has been too think to fill the bench several times.

So as far as our nucleus goes, we need to keep as many as possible

With Cry you have to wait until January at least. See how he does in the PL (assuming promotion). If he does well sign and keep. If he flops sell him. If we're back in the Champo, sell him in the summer for profitability.
