Match Thread Leeds Utd v Leicester City Match Thread

Post by Ellandback1 »

23rd February 8:00pm | Elland Road

Leeds will be looking to extend their winning run to nine, against high flying Leicester City on Friday evening, for the top of the table clash at Elland Road The Whites (along with Liverpool and Manchester City) are the only unbeaten sides at home in the entire football league, but face a rampant Foxes side, well on their way to smash the hundred point barrier this season.

Leeds beat Enzo Maresca's side back in November, thanks to Georginio Rutter's close range tap in, after Sam Byram's headed effort was only parried away from Hermansen. Illan Meslier pulled off an extraordinary save from Dewsbury-Hall in the dying minutes to deny the hosts a share of the spoils.

Leeds have not completed their double over Leicester City since the 1994-1995 season, but with arch nemesis Harvey Barnes now at Newcastle, the Elland Road faithful can breathe easier. Barnes netted six times in eight appearance for Fridays visitors, four more than Jamie Vardy! Patrick Bamford will undergo a late fitness test before Daniel Farke names his starting XI. The 30 year old tweaked his calf in the pre-match build up at Swansea, and has missed a fortnight of action - Joel Piroe stands by.

As mentioned in the award winning Breakfast Debate, it's going to be another fortnight until Pascal Struijk returns to training, so once again Ethan Ampadu will drop back in central defence alongside Countryman Joe Rodon. Sam Byram (hamstring, Stuart Dallas (leg) and Karl Darlow (dislocated thumb) remain sidelined. Daniel Farke may surprise everyone, and drop Archie Gray in favour of specialist right back Connor Roberts, who is a more dangerous player going up and down the right wing.

Leicester welcome back Kelechi Iheanacho after International duty with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations. Wilfried Ndidi (thigh) misses out whilst defender Ben Nelson is carrying a knock.

He did, but, if we'd have put our chances away, there would have been clear daylight between us, it would have been nothing more than a consolation goal for them..
Still a great win.

I’m not going to see the match tonight, have a function to attend that I can’t get out of. Deciding whether to record it and turn my phone off so I don’t see the score or sneaking my IPad under the table. Not sure I could last the whole evening without a look at the score 🫣🤔

It would have been a travesty if we hadn't won that game such was our dominance.

Of course you'll be half way through, or near the end of the evening, and some asshole is bound to say those dreaded words 'Have you seen the score ? - We drew 6-6'

Announce very loudly beginning of the evening you have chronic diarrhea.

Perfect excuse to spend 1.5 hours in the toilet with the ipad.

If anyone else tries to come in make lots of oooo aaaaa ohhh nooo noises.

They won't. . . .

Problem solved

I'll miss the first 30 minutes. Hoping I can watch from start without seeing the score.

Just imagine Georginio been swarmed by 5 Leicester players and skipping free from their clutches like a frolicking lamb.

I can see it now Jimmy floating inwards around the 18 yard box and the Leicester defenders mesmerized fearing to put in a tackle.

I can see Gnonto putting his thumbs in his ears and waving his fingers whilst sticking his tongue out as he races down the touchline past the Leicester manager.

Piroe will cross his arms and strike a majestic Cantona pose after he scores his goal.

Daniel Farke will be in his technical area manifesting all this to happen... and the fans will be focusing all their energy on to the pitch to embue all of the Leeds team with power, save for spider boy who will be sitting on his goal line legs crossed because he has so little to do.

The pundits in the TV studios will be flummoxed and bamboozaled cos they can't believe what they are seeing and will be left speechless.

The bulletin boards will fall dormant , a hush will fall on the Internet.

Old men will dream dreams and young men see visions. The stars will spell out victory in the heavens
