Leeds Utd v Coventry City Match Thread
Leeds Utd v Coventry City
Saturday 16th December@15:00hrs | Elland Road
Leeds are looking to get back to winning ways, as they welcome Coventry City to Elland Road at the weekend.
The Whites lost further ground to the Championship pacesetters after a disappointing midweek loss at the Stadium of Light, and are now ten points (and an inferior goal difference) behind Ipswich in second place.
The Sky Blues have not been able to replicate the same kind of form that saw them reach the play-off finals last May, and subsequently lost the services of Viktor Gyökeres and Gustavo Hamer during the Summer. They now now sit eleven places and fifteen points below the Whites, six points from the drop zone.
Leeds maybe heavy favourites for the win, but havn't beaten the Sky Blues since November 2010 when goals from Howson, Snodgrass and Gradel gave Simon Grayson's team a narrow 3-2 away victory.
Leeds have no new injury concerns but will be without the services of Liam Cooper (Hamstring), Joe Gelhardt (hip), Luke Ayling (knee), Sam Byram (Hamstring), Junior Firpo and Stuart Dallas (leg).
Kasey Palmer (groin), Liam Kelly (hamstring) and long term absentee Fabio Tavares (ruptured Achilles) miss the trip to West Yorkshire. Liam Kitching looks set to face his former club.

Yes, it is, watching one of my favourite ever Leeds players going past him.

Gutted after that semi final, we were coasting it until Ormsby had a relapse with 20 minutes to go and thought he'd let the ball go out.

The last time Leeds played Coventry at ER in 2011/12
Look at the empty seats, apart from the kop.

Saw him score some brilliant headers at ER, and away grounds back in the day.

Any time I think of Coventry, I'll always think of that semi. We may have lost, but it was a fantastic cup run. Especially as a 2nd division team.mentalcase wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2023 7:55 pm Gutted after that semi final, we were coasting it until Ormsby had a relapse with 20 minutes to go and thought he'd let the ball go out.
The only cup run we've had since was when we went to the League Cup final in the mid 90's.

Taken time for Coventry to get going but 10 points from the last 5 games.
Callum O'Hare back is important for them.
Having Wright and Ellis Simms are big strong mobile attackers.
Won't be easy.

Absolutely. If past is prelude, by halftime we’ll need Gnonto on for James, Gruev on for Ampadu, and Bamford for Piroe. Hope Farke has got this one right.

Need a big improvement on last week. Bit more urgency and get the ball to the front 4 a lot quicker.
We wont hurt them playing with it at the back.
