Match Thread Manchester City 2-1 Leeds Utd - Post Match Debate.

Post by Ellandback1 »

Saturday 6th May 3:00pm | Etihad Stadium

Newly crowned Leeds United manager, Sam Allardyce, faces a daunting task in his first game in charge as they host Premier League leaders Manchester City at Elland Road on Saturday. With just four games remaining, Leeds find themselves perilously close to the relegation, sitting in 17th place in the league table with only goal difference separating Leeds from the drop zone.

Allardyce has already made an impact on the squad since his appointment, claiming that his players have "aired their views" and he is "pleased" that they have done so. Ahead of the game against Manchester City, Allardyce emphasized the importance of not giving away possession too often, stating that he wants his players to show passion and fight until the very end.

The new manager has also sought to lift the mood around the training ground and praised former Leeds striker Robbie Keane in his backroom staff. Allardyce will be without some key players through injury, including captain Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas, Tyler Adams, and Luis Sinisterra, but he remains hopeful that his team can produce a positive result against the league leaders.

Stopping the supply to the prolific Erling Haaland will be a key task for the Leeds defence, and Allardyce has emphasized the need for his team to be at their best defensively. However, he also wants his players to be ruthless with their chances and take advantage of any opportunities that come their way.

Allardyce is keen to help his players improve their mentality and control their minds, recognizing that some players may find it difficult to voice their opinions when things aren't going well on the pitch. The Leeds boss relishes the challenge of facing off against Pep Guardiola and believes he has the element of surprise, having been out of the game for a while.

Leeds United vs Manchester City promises to be an intriguing encounter, with Allardyce looking to make his mark in his first game in charge. The away side will need to produce a resolute defensive display and take their chances when they come if they are to get anything out of the game against the league leaders.

Wober
Struijk
Roca
Forshaw

Summerville
Gnonto
Bamford

Think Patty winning the headers for Summerville and Gnonto to create chances with.

EDIT: Cooper not playing so rotated Wober to CB and Struijk to take over as LB.

Pep has spoken about how his team looked tied after Fulham.

Hinted that he will heavily rotate.

Good idea Pep.

Play those reserves

Only cost you £500mil

Leave Haaland, De Bruyne, Foden, Dias, Ederson, Walker, Rodri, Akanji, Mahrez, Silva back in Manchester at there homes.

Need to rest

Id play Meslier and then bin him for the season.
No point putting Robles in the firing line and knocking his confidence too..

My lineup

Image

Quite a rigid core but both McK and Forshaw can support the front three.
Wober can slot into the CBs when needed.

Gyabi and Roca to sub the midfield
Jimmy Rod and Rutter the forwards

They could play Mike Summerbee upfront, he’d still get a bagful

Paddy wins surprisingly few headers

Although if you were thinking of makign the change then givng Robles the match would at least get him ready for the next 3 as he'd likely be busy.

Why don’t we just phone up the EPL and ask to forfeit?

Early goal to Citeh and it could be embarrassing.

Robles. This game could be the making of him. If nothing else i would put him in for being Spanish and hope that Pep wants to protect one of his fellow country men. Worth a gamble.

I’ve been to Moss Side. Nobody strolls around there.

Very true. I’m just speculating on how Allardyce might approach things.

I don't think there will be too many changes in personnel given limited time he's had. There were even hints in press conference that it would be more about the feel he got from the players than any tactical changes. Changes more likely to happen against Newcastle. In fact this game kind of comes across as a warm up game for us, getting ready for the last 3.

That said I do think he'll go ultra defensive 5-4-1 or 4-5-1
