Match Thread Accrington Stanley 1-3 Leeds Utd - Match Debate

Post by Ellandback1 »

Saturday 27th January 12:30pm | Wham Stadium
FA Cup 4th Round

Leeds will make a last minute dash down the M62 on Saturday lunchtime to take on League 1 strugglers Accrington Stanley in the fourth Round of the FA Cup. The 'Owd Reds' finally beat National League outfit Boreham Wood, courtesy of a penalty in added extra time. Domestically, they sit in 20th position, just a point above the drop zone.

The two sides have only ever met twice, with Leeds victorious both times (2-0 in the Johnstones Paint Trophy in 2009, and a narrow 2-1 win in 2014 in the League Cup). John Coleman's side got their own back a couple of seasons ago when they demolished Leeds U21's 7-0. Coleman is almost a part of the furniture at the Wham Stadium; he's been there since 2014.

Leeds will be without the services of Joe Gelhardt and Cody Drameh with both securing Championship loan deals last week. Illan Meslier will start in net, Kristensen and Firpo wing backs with Wober and Koch, who has to serve a one match suspension against Nottingham Forest next week, in the middle of defence. Tyler Adams and Willy Gnonto didn't make the trip over the Pennines so Roca and Greenwood will start in the midfield, with Harrison, Sinisterra and debutant Georginio Rutter. Patrick Bamford starts up front. Ayling, Llorente, Gyabi, Aaronson, Perkins, Joseph and Rodrigo provide strength from the bench.

The visitors will be without midfielder Joe Pritchard who ruptured his Achilles last month.

It remains to be seen whether record signing Georginio Rutter makes his Leeds debut, though its more likely, he'll be on the bench, alongside Joseph and Perkins. Fellow youngster Darko Gyabi should start.
8 days until the next game after that. So I don't think there will be much of a look in for the 21's. Expect to see a rotation of 1st team squad players

Meslier
Kristenssen
Firpo
Koch (since suspended for next game)
Llorente
Roca
Greenwood
Rutter
Summerville
Sinisterra
Bamford

Much depends on fitness. Can see Cooper getting a good chunk of minutes if fit

Pretty close to what I would expect to see. However, not sure Summerville will be ready so probably Harrison to star in his place. Can see Robles getting a start too.

Where's our best attacking option Gnonto in the above teams mentioned?

Are we resting Willy?

With an 8 day wait till the next game, I'd assume a very strong team to get the job done.

Play a strong enough team, just rest the cripples.

---------------------Robles--------------------
Kristensen--Koch---Llorente---Firpo
----------Greenwood---Gyabi------------
Sinisterra------------------------Harrison
-----------Bamford------Rutter------------

I think we could get an hour out of Bamford. Even if Rutter isn't 100% fit, I'd start him, and again would like to see an hour from him. If we are 2 up or more, swap them for Joseph and Perkins for the last half hour.

I think Marsch will have learnt from the first Cardiff match and will start with a very strong team and then look to rest players if we are cruising.

Another one who wants 2 right sided central defenders. Colour me baffled

I'm cautiously readying myself to cut Jesse some slack, let's hope he doesn't tighten it again.

I'm expecting 6 smash n grab goals for us, followed by the weekly 2 for them.

Draw another duffer in the next round, and the next and the next, then who knows what it might lead to ?

Fergie 1984 - Whiteside goal 1-0 EFC - Jesse at Leeds for another 20 odd years ?

Shudder the thought.

We should beat Acrimonious Stanley if we don't get cocky playing a load of back ups and newbies....
