Re: Horse Racing News - MacDermott wins the Scottish Grand National
Great that there were no fatalities in the Grand National, but two horses died on Friday I believe....very sad

Strange that McDermott. Was heavily backed initially earlier this week in to favouritism then yesterday it drifted like a barge and ended up at 18/1 because they gambled his other horse Mr “I don’t race if I don’t want to” Incredible.

A very strange betting pattern, Jay.
Still cross with myself for missing out on Sharjah.

What a terrible season for Nicky Henderson.
It got a bit better recently but then he loses Shishkin.
Broke his leg when cast in his box. Very sad for all concerned. Poor horse that must have been a horrible end.

Re: Horse Racing News - Shishskin's death.
Awful news, Jay
Henderson added: “It's been tough. You thought when Aintree had gone well and Jonbon had come back and put up one of his best performances it was going to finish on a good note. Then fate turns its hand again. I feel desperately sorry for everyone here. Things have been put into perspective.”
A fourth-placed finish behind Gerri Colombe in the Aintree Bowl this month proved to be Shishkin's final race. He won 14 of his 21 starts, earning £798,668.

Very sad news, was a fine horse. Gotta feel for Nicky, he's had a rotten season.

Re: Horse Racing News.
Derby contender Hidden Law suffered a fatal injury moments after winning the Chester Vase on Wednesday, his trainer Charlie Appleby has confirmed.
The son of Dubawi had landed the Group 3 contest handsomely by three lengths, but appeared to break down at the road crossing after the finishing line and was immediately dismounted by William Buick.
He was attended to on the track, but could not be saved.
Hidden Law had started his career when runner-up at Southwell, before he emerged on to the Classic scene when an impressive winner at Newbury last month.

Re: Horse Racing News.
Where are you in relation to the finishing post, Jay, it's a little hard to make out from the pics?

Re: Horse Racing News.
Sorry Nick didn’t see this.
So in the top pic the finishing post is towards the end of the grandstand on the right as below in red.
The bottom pic is looking the other way at the final bend.

Re: Horse Racing News.
No worries, Jay, so were you 3-4 furlongs out?

Re: Horse Racing News.
ah yes, that would be about right, Leon
Absolutely, I've been known to do the same at Down Royal. There's a vantage point on a road that runs adjacent to the track where you can see part of the back straight, the final bend and the run in to the winning post.
