Valid points, Bally and Norm, the DOF thing doesn't work unless you have piles of cash to potentially waste, but a decent manager gets the best out of the players at his disposal. PH is showing no sign of even managing that

Heckingbottom is the equivalent of having a pile of poo on the badge.

It seems the worse a manager is at Leeds the more they get defended, it's bizarre.
Tbf Clive I don't see anyone defending him, most said they didn't want him here but he is here and will wait and see if he can deliver, give him a chance.
It takes a strong character to get protests and the like going. I reckon you're the man for it.

I think he's just using his time to learn what each player gives him. Next match Kalvin will be dropped for Viera. I think Heck has used the last few matches to decide he doesn't want O'Kane or Kalvin. He already knows he doesn't want De Bok, and now he doesn't want Anita at left-back either.
This is why he got the job now. To give him time to assess the players, and try youngsters closer to the end of the league. You have to remember, we know the players. He's just arrived, and is discovering what he has. Look at his line-ups, and it's obvious he's giving players two games in whatever position to assess them, then dropping them for the next player to have two games there. Done it with KP, O'Kane, Anita, Dallas, and started Sakho.
I completely agree we should be playing 3-5-2 with the players we have. But in an experiment you need constant conditions to fairly assess. So I think that's why he's stuck with the system that isn't working.
It's obvious we need Denton at left-back, or no left-back.
I'd go no left-back, with five in the middle, utilising Pablo and Alioski on the wings, with Lasogga and Ekuban up front.
Easy for teams to mark one striker. Harder with two. Plus two can close them down further up the pitch.

What would he know about what it takes to compete at the top of the table?

We beat Boro and Brstol City, we should have beaten Villa under TC, even Wolves for 15 20mins in the second half we were the better side, we got it back to 2-1 and were the better side.

He talks utter crap, he is an average lower league ENglish manager, this side can beat the better sides, they have.

Are we a top 6 side, probably not, but we are certainly better then the crap he has dished up, get him out.

We were better than most of them in Nice weather, on good pitches. I'm hoping we will get nice weather and go on another decent run late in the season.

100%.

Whilst we all probably expected to lose to Wolves we made it a lot easier for them by once again getting selection wrong. I said prior to the match that I would be interested to see if we were able to play well for any spell in the game and we didn't. I don't see these players trying for the manager or playing with any confidence.

radebe88 wrote: Thu Mar 08, 2018 10:08 am What on earth is that interview. We know where we are? We certainly do with you in charge.
He knows that we have beaten the teams above us at various times this season doesn’t he surely? We haven’t been getting spanked 3-0 all season. Again how is this man supposed to motivate and inspire? Look at the the state of his attitude. No mention of his own decisions just further blaming the players
It used to bug me when Gary Monk with his dead fish stare used to give interviews.
But Mr Monk should be considered an amphetamine hopped up twitching speedhead
in comparison to Mr WhatTheHeck who has the demeanor of a cold zoned out zombie,
who only has the ability for stating the obvious.

If I had been interviewing him I would have asked what was the logic of playing Sacko on the left
when he has played on the right all season. I would have asked why throw Peacock-Farrell in at
the deep end when the previous interview he was dissing him. What is the reason for keeping
Hernandez on the bench. Why persist with Phillips in the midfield.

All you would get from him is mealy mouthed platitudes. He may see what is wrong
but he has no plans on how to fix it. I hate those glazed eyes of terrified defeat.

Hernandez was carrying an injury all week & wasn't a certainty to even make the bench

BPF did more than ok

Phillips, Anita & Sacko are a waste of space

Weather doesn't excuse the rubbish Paul has dished out.

We can but hope it improves, Barnsley have without him, unlucky to lose to Cardiff by all accounts.

And replace him with who Cjay? I'm certainly not sticking up for him...but Radz & Co. would look very foolish for employing an 'out of his depth lower league manager' if they sacked him. Thing is, he should never have been given the job in the first place. I said at the beginning I was surprised at the appointment, but was prepared to give the bloke a chance, but the more I see of him and his 'team' the more despondent I get :(

With him the tykes drew 0-0 with Wolves in January, that blows that theory out of the window

The saddest bit is that when managers were being discussed, Simon Grayson, Steve McClaren, Jaap Stam. Nobody wanted them. . .but all of them have better Championship credentials then Paul Heckingbottom. . . As do Neil Harris, Kevin Blackwell, Gianfranco Zola, Nigel Clough the list goes on of managers who people dont rate or want near our club but whose records are better then the man we have. :(
Dean Smith is my choice, he'd probably say no which in itself as a very sad indictment of us these days

Last 5 under Hecky . 3 defeats, 1 win 1 draw.
Since Hecky 1 win . . 2 draws . . 2 defeats.

Thats that theory proven.

Phil Hay:

Liam Cooper has a dead leg. Needs a scan so he's unlikely to feature at Reading

Kemar Roofe still missing but Andy Lonergan is expected to train tomorrow

Heckingbottom on whether BPF will keep his place against Reading: "Possibly. I thought he was pretty calm in the game.

Heckingbottom: "I knew it was a big job here but you can never understand it properly until you get your feet under the table. That's why you need to come in and assess everything

Heckingbotto, thinks Reading are better than their league position. "They won so many games 1-0 last season and they've not had the rub of the green in the same way."

Heckingbottom says he's enjoyed his time here so far but that he's got plenty of work to do. Says he knew that when he first took over and when Leeds first spoke to him.

On set-pieces, Heckingbottom said it would be solely his call to move to man-marking, despite Gianni Vio setting up a zonal marking system. Says he's not sure he's got the players for man marking at present. #lufc

Asked Heckingbottom if he needs a set-piece specialist. Said they can be useful but equally, he wants to remove "shades of grey" and and complications from the defending

Heckingbottom admitted that his central midfield players have been inconsistent and that area hasn't worked well enough. Thinks they all have the capacity to play well but need to find a reliable level.

Heckingbottom on Hernandez's future: "He's been a real positive light. With his contract situation, it's something we want to make sure we get right and we want to give Pablo every opportunity to perform. The priority is keeping him fit, then we'll see what happens."

On Tom Pearce, United's young left-back, Heckingbottom said he was someone he enquired about when he was manager at Barnsley. "He's got attributes which are really good. He's got a chance."
