Breakfast Debate The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Friday 5th April) U18's Reach Cup Final After Edging Past Lions

Post by Ellandback1 »

Good Morning. It's Friday 5th April, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road…

U18's reach Cup final after edging past Lions

Rob Etherington’s U18's booked their place in the FA Youth Cup, edging a seven goal thriller at Elland Road last night.

10,000 fans were in attendance to see the Leeds stars of tomorrow come from behind, before eventually managing to tame the Lion cubs. To their credit, Millwall were no slouches, and after going behind themselves twice, clawed their way back into the game.

Goals from Rhys Chadwick (pen), Charlie Crew, Beaumont (own goal) and Whiteman (own goal) were enough to book a place in the final with Manchester City, who beat Bristol City 1-0 on Tuesday evening. The date and venue has not been finalised yet!

Leeds to launch legal bid against Foxes if promotion unsuccessful

Leeds will almost certainly take legal action against Leicester City if they fail to win promotion this season.

With six games left, Leeds find themselves wedged between Ipswich Town and Leicester City, with only two points separating the trio. Although currently third, Enzo Maresca's side remain favourites to finish their campaign as Champions, and have a game in hand (against Southampton).

The true extent of Leicester's blatant disregard for the rules came to light earlier this week when Chief Executive Susan Whelan revealed a pre-tax loss of £89.7m, on the back of a record £92.5m loss the season before.

After Ipswich Town's last minute goal against Southampton, it's a three horse race, but only two positions available. Unlike their flimsy case against Everton, Leeds have a waterproof case against the 15/16 Premier League winners, who brazenly refused to cut their cloth accordingly, even after relegation to the Championship!

Tremendous achievement by Rob Etherington's U18's. It doesn't guarantee that all of them will have top level careers of course, but it's good to known we have some promising youngsters coming through.
I look forward to watching the final.

Strange how the BBC did the big feature on Millwall's under 18s reaching the semi as if it was a huge thing for a championship side to reach the semi. It then turns out 3 of the 4 clubs in the semis were from championship clubs.

And Man City probably the worst of them. The only team that didn't really turn up

Spot on, and even more strange they don't even follow up on it with anything about the match since, but if Millwall had won there would certainly be an article about it

Nothing comes of these legal challenges, the football authorities know compensation cases succeeding would set a dangerous precedent so won’t even entertain it. Just hope if they do beat us to go up they are hit with a 10 point deduction and have a thoroughly miserable season before going back down.

My thought is while they may not succeed legally they can indirectly pressure other bodies to act.
For example Leeds and a few other clubs brought something against Everton last season and then Everton get their points deduction

But as long as the lawyers are making money it is all good.

Grads to the kiddies, an FA Cup final is a nice thing to look forward to.
Let's hope the powers that be give it the proper showcase it deserves. 10k Leeds fans last night was a huge thumbs up for our young uns too.

RIP
Chris & Kev

Great win for the U18s last night although they made hard work of it, 3 mistakes cost us 3 goals, hope they learn from it.
I don't suppose many of the lads will make it, but it's an experience for them, I wish them well, also looking forward to going to the final.

Nothing will become of the Leicester thing to favour us, never does, wouldn't be surprised if they took points off us because we've complained too much.

3 Points saturday will be great.

Bang on.

Whilst talking about justice I can't to this day believe that there were no sanctions or repercussions on Galatasaray or Turkey as a result of this hideous act. If it had been a Galatasaray fan murdered in Leeds I can imagine we would have been banned from Europe for 25 years.

Robinson, Woodgate, and Kewell were in the team that last won the competition. Plus a few other useful ones like McPhail.

Charlie Crew is already kicking it with the first team. Chadwick looks a good player too. Hope to see some make the full journey with us.

They're probably an all star team. Would be interesting to know how many of their line up came from other academies.

Last team to win the competition:

Paul Robinson, Harry Kewell, Jonathan Woodgate, Alan Maybury, Stephen McPhail, Wesley Boyle, Matthew Jones, Tommy Knarvik, Lee Matthews, Kevin Dixon, Damien Lynch

I'd say there's hope of a few

My thoughts exactly. They should have been forced to sell in the summer.
