Been a longtime fan of Toumani Diabaté. The Mandé Variations are unaccompanied, which makes the sound of the kora more intense and immediate. I would have picked it for '08, but African music generally gets ignored on here.
They're women that have never sung professionally before at that point... It doesn't bother me

Not saying the singing is bad... don't think not having done it professionally makes any difference, when they've been singing their traditional music for generations.

Ooh, another album I don't know to listen to on my headphones.

All the nominated albums had an airing in the '64 household, some more than others!

There's 7 albums up there I've never listened to before this poll, never listened to any work by the artists ...That's comfortably a first for me and as I think the KoL was the dropping off point for them, a very weak album compared to what went before, plus the Elbow only being their 4th best and not in the class of the first three ... that makes it very difficult

Not that impressed with much of it to be honest, mate

Kings of Leon, Killers, Mogwai, Goldfrapp & Elbow are all much weaker than some of their other works imo!

I rate my nomination by Elbow (their most popular album) 6th out of their 9 studio albums, even so, it's my favourite album in the pile.

There are four surprises amongst the nominations which I hadn't heard previously, with three of them featuring in my votes.

Elbow

Kings Of Leon
Long Blondes
Gutter Twins

The Garifuna Collective 'Umalali' just missing out!

There’s nothing there really that should win an album of the year, even second time around. The Garafina did win a number of awards.

I could have gone Hold Steady but even that is patchy despite it having their masterpiece on it. It feels forced at times.

I considered The Hold Steady album, not their strongest album by far.
