The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thur 23rd May)
Good Morning Everyone
Niall Huggins has penned his first professional football contract.
The 18yo joins fellow scholar Theo Hudson who signed his one year contract earlier in the week.
Huggins netted 12 goals in 29 matches for Mark Jackson’s side last term.
The rumour doing the rounds is that Leeds are prepared to consider a swap deal to bring Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle to Elland Road at the expense of losing Jack Clarke or Kalvin Phillips.
The other stumbling block is wages. Gayle is currently on £40,000 a week, but wants that increased to £55,000 upon his next move.
Thoughts?
Bournemouth are keeping tabs on 19yo left back Leif Davis.
The youngster featured five times for Bielsa's team last term.
A fee of 4m has been banded about!
If true, should Leeds snap up the money and run, orwill the youngster be ready for Leeds first team come last August?
If so, what happens to Douglas, Alioski, De Bock, Anita, Dallas, Pearce and Denton!
Which players are surplus to requirements?
What kind of impact would you expect Hernandez to make next season?
It was obvious to see that the 34yo had nothing left in his tank, come the play offs.
Why Bielsa did not rest out most influential player when we knew that the automatic places were beyond us, I'll never know!

Hi EB et al
We could always do with a striker, not sure about wanting to lose Clarke or Phillips.
Haven't seen enough of Davis to comment.
Will have to wait and see about Hernandez, his form certainly did drop towards the end of the season.

Un Marcelo Bielsa, solo hay un Marcelo Bielsa. Gracias Marcello. Marsching on together.

Morning all.
Over the hump of the week!!
In regards to Gayle... i would lost Clarke to bring him in but not Phillips.
Clarke is still relatively unproven whereas Phillip's has started to realise his potential.
Gayle is a proven goalscorer at this level and would have scored 30+ in this team last season. Wages could be a stumbling block though as stated.
Davis is a tricky one. Liked the look of him when he played but again relatively unproven. I'd trust Bielsa to make the right call.
Unsure about Hernandez but wouldnt expect him to be ever present for us next year.

Good morning Matt
Young players
We are obsessed with young players
Gayle
His huge salary is unsustainable in the championship
Davis
I doubt the Cherries are interested tbh
Douglas, Alioski, De Bock, Anita, Dallas, Pearce and Denton!
Three of those are not specialised left wing-backs
We can do better!
Hernandez
We had no one to fill Pablo's boots because our squad was threadbare, was always evident a lack of quality back-up would come back to haunt us from day one

Morning all.
Really excited about Theo Hudson, he reminds of another left footed winger from the academy, a certain Australian.
We can't afford Gayle's wages, so that story is a non starter. Certainly since KP and Clarke will be on a tenth of what he is, how would we swap them if we can't afford Gayle? That 'rumour' makes no sense.
Davis is probably lazy journalism. Bielsa really rates him and he'd had played more if not for injuries. I'd rather sell Pearce tbh.
Hernandez needs to become a bit part player for us this season. No doubting his brains and quality, but at 34 he won't be able to do it for 46 games. We shouldn't be relying on him.

Good morning!
Just wondering what the world must look like when £40,000 a week isn't enough for you. I'd swap Clarke, but not Phillips, and not on those wages.
My feeling is that young, unproven players who can command a fee should do so, especially when we are not short in their area. They are less likely to have an impact next season than, say, Pontus.
I think we should assume that we won't be able to rely on Pablo next season, and look to replace his creativity. Anything he still offers is then a bonus.

Morning All,
We can't afford Dwight Gayle' s wages so the rumour, and that's all it is, is nonsense.
Sky Sports are reporting that we are interested in Pompey's Jamal Lowe.
Leif Davis won't be going anywhere. He needs another U23 season while providing cover for Douglas and Alioski.
De Bock, Anita and Denton will all leave, I expect.
Pablo needs to be used more sensibly next season which hopefully will give Shackleton more game time.

We are paying Casilla £50k a week. A number of clubs would take him off our hands on a free I reckon. That would free up money!
Alioski plays left wing back for his Country...

Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thur 23rd May)
Evening Harry, I agree with you over Clarke. I'd want a 20 percent see on clause
Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thur 23rd May)
I can't believe so many Leeds fans would be happy to swap Clarke for Gayle! Clarke will play for England and be worth £60m in a few years and we'll all be kicking ourselves over it.
Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thur 23rd May)
Still vulnerable defensively & lets face it Macedonia are no world beaters, it's like saying Cooper plays for Scotland....oh hang on a minute our captain can't make it into the poorest Scottish squad ever!
Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thur 23rd May)
I wouldn't allow Clarke to go even though he struggled towards the end of season
Three reasons for that :
His illness affected his form/confidence
Too much expectation on the young lad
Not the finished article
Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thur 23rd May)
Exactly. A good pre season and he will be back and raring to go. He will be a key player for us next season. It would be a huge mistake for him to be sold/leave now.
Re: The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Thur 23rd May)
The difference is Gayle can put us in the PL but i doubt Clarke can have the same impact. Once in the PL everyone's price goes up immediately.SG90 wrote:I can't believe so many Leeds fans would be happy to swap Clarke for Gayle! If 50k per week = 30 goals in a season why not.
We could get rid of Casilla - he's on 50k a week!
