Can't argue with any of that, Cjay, he has been a model of consistency this season. But you're right re playing above his natural level, most of this squad have, I think he'll come back fine. This is Bielsa's miracle. And is also why I'm not living or dying by promotion this season. We are a couple away, perhaps as starters, perhaps as impact subs from having a squad set up to walk this league. Might have to buy them, they might come from the U23s who are a season older and wiser under CC/MB. We also cannot be as cursed with injuries to key players at key times as we have been this season. Have said it before, I think we're ahead of schedule in the Bielsa project. That's not me saying that we should fear promotion and shouldn't go for it, but I suspect Radz and Orta did not truly imagine we would be knocking on the autos door all season.Cjay wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2019 3:06 pm Tbf i think most sensible fans can agree he has largely played well this season.
Issue for me is like i said before he like others have been playing above there natural talent level, MB has got that out of him.
Unfortunately there will come occasions where Liam reverts to what i consider his natural level which is a very average Championship cb, with that comes the mistakes we saw yesterday.
As long as he comes back stronger like the majority of this season then it will be ok but if his confidence is severely dented the concern is he will revert to the Liam Cooper of old and that player isnt promotion standard imo.

Re: Liam Cooper
Just a simple miscontrol for the goal, if Bamford, for example, miscontrols the ball further up the field nobody notices, just on this occasion Cooper was last man. However it is the risk that comes with playing the Bielsa way as if he simply lumps it out of play all Sheff Utd get is a throw in.

Re: Liam Cooper
He has the talent in bucket loads for this division, everyone has an off day and I think the system let him down a little too, seemed to pop up covering other positions at points, where you wouldn't usually

Was in my top six, commanding at the back
Re: Liam Cooper
He seems a nice guy and cares a lot but dear god he has to be a backup at best, he isnt a good defender, he has shown that on many occasions and like his defensive partner tonight he isnt and never will be a promotion level cb.
Improved this season but when it counts he doesnt stand up and be counted.
If your cb is captain he should be the best defender, Cooper isnt.

He has been excellent at times but there are still too many errors in his game and unfortunately it has cost us in the big games - Sheff Utd and last night. It seems to me that in the big games he panics more or the occasion gets to him which is a big concern.

He is only in the squad, might not get into the team.
Re: Liam Cooper
Has withdrawn from the Scotland squad with a small groin tear.
Still think its weird how many of our players get injured almost straight after coming back from an injury.
Still think the medical staff rush players back.
