Album Of The Day (29th May)
Coldplay - Parachutes - (2000)
An accomplished, dreamy, yet subtle debut album from Coldplay, still their best work imo!
I know others don't share the same opinion as myself, because of Chris Martin, a bit like people feel about Bono, nevertheless U2 also made some great albums too.

Jenny Hval's album Iris Silver Mist could be my Album of the Year.
A real grower!

He's on in Cardiff in July, I think..........still going at 77yrs old.
Although not on this album, School's Out is one of the first tracks I can still recall, that stuck, as a kid listening to the Top 20 on the radio on a Sunday evening and seeing on TOTP.

Album Of The Day (1st June)
Pharoah Sanders - Love Will Find A Way (1978)
Pharoah Sanders relinquishes his centrism on this wonderful jazz/soul project allowing Phyllis Hyman to shine flawlessly on the songs 'Love Is Here' & 'As You Are'

Album Of The Day (2nd June)
Captain Beefheart - Safe As Milk (1967)
Great blues' album from the Captain, with the soulful ballad 'I'm Glad' thrown in for good measure.
Beefheart's most assessable album, for those who are not a fan of the great man.
An underrated masterpiece.

Don't think so. Unconditionally Guaranteed and Bluejeans and Moonbeams are the two really accessible CB albums. It's the two Riot hates for being so commercial, after DVV had his arm twisted by the record company to make them..1964white wrote: ↑Mon Jun 02, 2025 6:25 pm Album Of The Day (2nd June)

Clear Spot and Spotlight Kid albums (available as a package) plus Shiny Beast (Bat chain Puller) are the two to start any journey into Beefheart imo.

My Top 10 plays over the last week.
To qualify for my top ten, I have to play the albums twice or more.
1 - Jenny Hval - Iris Silver Mist - (2025)
I didn't think much of, when I first listened to the album, but it is a wonderful, mystical, piece of work, so much so, it's my album of 2025
2 - Kate Bush 'Aerial' (Disc 2) - A Sea Of Honey (2005)
My most played album of all-time. Lay down, headphones on. & dream you are Kate's landscapes.
3 - Jenny Hval - Blood Bitch (2016)
I'm playing Hval's back catalogue albums, hoping her weird, sometimes disturbing songs grow on me as much as her new album has done over the last few months.
4 - Jenny Hval - Classic Objects (2022)
5 - Craig Finn - Always Been - (2025)
This could be Finn's best solo album since his Hold Steady years.
6 - Band Of Horses - Everything All The Time (2006)
A firm favourite on my playlist. I highly recommend this album, it's a beauty!
7 - Peter Bruntnell - Houdini and the Sucker Punch (2024)
Peter was support at The Delines concert I saw in Leeds recently. It was just him & a Double bass musician. This album is much more to my liking as he is backed up with a band. I'm surprised how good it is, great car music!
8 - Talk Talk - Laughing Stock (1991)
This album has a subtle jazz influence, filled with lush organ tones, brilliant, articulate guitar sounds, and sensible grooves. Along with Spirit Of Eden, Laughing Stock are Talk Talk's best.
9 - Captain Beefheart - Safe As Milk (1967)
Great blues' music from the Captain
10 - Pharoah Sanders - Love Will Find A Way (1978)
Delicious jazz/soul featuring Phylis Hyman.

Re: Music Chat Thread.
Craig is still with the Hold Steady, still the finest bar band in the world. Had an album out last year I think. Saw them at the Electric Ballroom last year, excelent
Franz Nicolay's solo stuff is also worth listening to.. Luck and Courage probably the best

Album Of The Day (3rd June)
Band Of Horses - Everything All The Time (2006)
This debut album was recommended to me by my old pal Ges, several years ago, a regular album on my playlist since. Their vocal arrangements remind of the Hodgson brothers of Supertramp.
I highly recommend this album, it's a beauty!

Yes, a couple of years ago, I didn't purchase 'The Price Of Progress'. I have Nicolay's 'Major General' and 'Luck & Courage' albums. The Subhuman wrote: ↑Tue Jun 03, 2025 12:41 pm Craig is still with the Hold Steady, still the finest bar band in the world. The album before Price of Progress was outstanding. A top 3 HS album quality - Open Door Policy, stunning songwriting. Teeth Dreams is the only one I don't get on with but that doesn't feature Nickolay I don't think.
