This is getting depressing. The standard of refereeing in the PL is shocking. Most European leagues don’t seem to have the constant controversy and the refereeing at international level is actually good. Are these refs there too long or are most of they actually biased against specific teams, like Leeds?

Also, when there is no punishment for time wasting it becomes a key tactic. It’s ridiculous that a yellow cannot be giving for throwing or kicking the ball away, like Bailey did in the first couple of minutes today - so cynical and then goes unpunished.

3/10 Too one sided with the yellows, no attempt to check the time wasting and for being blind to many Villa fouls. Another one that’s useless.

Gets points for “not seeing” Cooper pulling Ming’s shirt.

Anyone who saw that game would tell you Villa gave at least as good as they got.

The ref started out calling a lot of fouls with the intent, I thought, of getting ahold of the game early on. But that works only if you call them on both sides. What he showed Villa from early on was that time wasting and falling down would be rewarded, so they kept on doing it (until time wasting was no longer in their interest).

A pathetic display.

Abysmal. Missed some very obvious fouls. Young easily accumulated 3 yellows. He actually got our cards right. The petulance from Sinisterra should be punished but there is no consistency

Gave the Villa kid the benefit of an early warning for kicking the ball away which set the pattern for an uneven performance.

All our yellows were deserved but most were earned in frustration to an indecisive ref.

Attwell is appalling and always has been. Was demoted from reffing in the Prem ten years ago, and should never have been allowed back.

Let Bailey off for not just kicking the ball away in the first 3mins but smashing it across the pitch, spent as much time talking to Villa about time wasting as they did time wasting, gave a free kick to Villa every time they went down screaming, appeared he was doing everything he could to give them an advantage including forgetting he’d already booked Sinisterra in the first half so when he booked him in the second he suddenly realised he had to send him off!!

1/10 and only because he turned up and without doing that the game would have been cancelled

I agree Velo he was waiting all game to send someone off, but when you watch the replay he takes him a while to realise that he's just given him a second yellow
