“He wanted to stay at Elland Road, he wanted to prepare, he wanted to work with Victor and I on the transfer window and oversee, to the training ground director's delight, the training ground work that took place. As normal with Marcelo, putting pen to paper he sees as an irrelevance. It's really emotionally and psychologically where he is. He's certainly with Leeds United for the next season.

“We agreed the terms several weeks ago, several months ago perhaps. The measure we use within the club is whether he is engaged, is he working on next season.

“He is, he's working and is incredibly diligent. I'm not sure there's any other manager in the Premier League who is taking no time off and is not leaving the training ground. That shows his commitment. I'm treating the contract as a formality.”

Its incredible given his age.

Its incredibly tiring and stressful being a Premier league manager.

Bielsa will be the oldest manager in the league next season.

No rest, no time off, didnt go home to see his family (although i heard they came to see him).

I dont think he will ever retire, what would he do? It would drive him insane all that time.

I cant remember who it was (probably in this tread somewhere) but i do remember someone (maybe a journalist or ex footballer/manager) saying that "it's bad for English football".

This was back in MB's first season when us and Norwich were battling it out near the top of the Championship, Norwich managed by German Daniel Farke.

Well

Was just reading this great article and especially love the graphic with bielsa as the progenitor of some of the top coaches and by extension the England players although weird they missed Phillips from it. It’s nothing as Leeds fans we don’t know but good to see the acknowledgement of it in national press.

Is Marcelo Bielsa, waiting to see if LUFC sign the quality and number of new players he is prepared to work with, before signing his new contract ?

Welcome

As ever, he's too busy with more important things (such as getting the door handles adjusted at Thorp Arch) to sign his contract. He will sign, I have no doubt.

I thought he was too busy measuring every blade of grass at ER now that a new pitch has been laid down... it has to be perfect

He will sign, no doubt ...he knows what the ramifications of walking away now is...he would never get a 1 year contract with anyone , and IMO the only way he will leave Leeds now is when he wants to retire.
