Appreciate he’s played in midfield, but I see him as a RB myself, where we have a bit of cover, particularly if the signing of Byram is true.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Thu Aug 03, 2023 9:45 pm Would like to see him stay. At least until we make some signings. We have no experience or depth in midfield.

Re: Jamie Shackleton
Jamie could be our next Stuart Dallas, definitely useful as a utility player.Barlow Boy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 7:10 am Appreciate he’s played in midfield, but I see him as a RB myself, where we have a bit of cover, particularly if the signing of Byram is true.
Can even do a job on the wing due to his explosive nature.
Defo a handy player to have around.

I suppose for his experience he would be worth keeping, he would be a better bet to bring on than some of our inexperienced kids, but i could never see anything good about him. Always saw him as very average, and more of a squad player than a starter.

Me too, a runner/grafter but nothing special, hope in this league he steps up a lot.GreennWhite wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 8:33 am I suppose for his experience he would be worth keeping, he would be a better bet to bring on than some of our inexperienced kids, but i could never see anything good about him. Re: Jamie Shackleton
Farke said he trained with a squad of 16 players today. No way Shackleton can leave. Drameh is injured. So he's needed as RB cover. And we have one central midfielder with more 1st team experience.

Re: Jamie Shackleton
Nothing wrong with that. He seemed to come in and be steady, we didn't miss the player he replaced but equally he didn't force his way into the starting plans.GreennWhite wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 8:33 am I suppose for his experience he would be worth keeping, he would be a better bet to bring on than some of our inexperienced kids, but i could never see anything good about him. If he played a full seaosn for us I'd expect him to score 7 or 8 goals, create a few, keep things tidy and still fly under the radar.

Re: Jamie Shackleton
Bit harsh Leon.
I felt for him. He's definitely not a right winger and added very little in that position. As a RW, he did have a poor game. But you still couldn't fault his energy and effort, distance covered.
I think he's a useful member of our squad to cover CM or RB. But definitely not where he played on Saturday.
I was a bit baffled by that set up. With what he had I was surprised Farke didn't play a 4-3-3. Or in the formation he chose, he probably should have played Gray in the 10, Poveda on the right and Shacks alongside Amapdu.
Re: Jamie Shackleton
I may seem harsh, but he hardly got a kick, Shacks didn't do much wrong but, he wasn't involved enough, not his fault I hasten to add, the young man was thrown in at the deep end out on the right wing, probably there to make the numbers up with so many of the squad unavailable.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Mon Aug 14, 2023 6:28 pm Bit harsh Leon.

I gave Jamie 8/10 against Shrewsbury as he had a fantastic game.

Re: Jamie Shackleton
I think we were all in agreement that Shackleton had a strong game yesterday
I was worried when I saw starting at RW again after being so ineffective against the other Brummies.
We know he's got a great engine and will bust a lung to make himself available at both ends of the pitch. Yesterday he showed quite a bit of attacking drive too - being more asserive in making things happen.
I don't wish to see him as our answer on the wing. But he should be a really valuable member of our squad this season. We need 4 midfielders and right now Shackleton is the 3rd. He also offers back up at RB.

As Weasel pointed out, he's versatile and valuable to DF in this league, he's a trier and you get 100%, i can't remember who against but he once had an absolute cracker at RB getting forward for Bert i think it was.
He won't be in DF's first 11 next month but he should be retained for this season
Still being proven right years on.

Re: Jamie Shackleton
I remember a great game he played in midfield in the premier league against Villa. It was the game where Strujik got subbed on 20 minutes after getting a yellow for fouling Grealish. It turned out to be a brilliant team performance. And Shacks played a big role. He's got a lot of what we need - including a great attitude and commitment to the cause.Kennyb41 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 6:42 pm Good post![]()

Re: Jamie Shackleton
Against Shrewsbury they did frequently. Shackleton was in midfield and Ayling at RB. But Ayling ended up playing RW for most of the game with Shacks covering his RB position.

I think Shackleton is the type of player who plays at the level of those around him. Put good players round him and he won't stand out but won't look out of place, put poor players around him and he will also struggle.andrewjohnsmith wrote: ↑Sat Aug 19, 2023 6:48 pm I remember a great game he played in midfield in the premier league against Villa. Definitely a great player to have in a squad, the Madeley type who can fill in anywhere without much drop off. I could see him being a regular starter once Farke has all his pieces assembled but equally I could se him being the go to man all over the pitch when we get an injury.

Shacks has goals and assists in him, it was nice to see him have a better game yesterday.
Defo one to keep and will be a good rotation player.
Relegation has really given a handful of our players a chance to rejuvenate their Leeds careers and he is one of them.
Take her chance wee man.

Re: Jamie Shackleton
Shackleton was good yesterday. I don't see him as a Starter when the dust settles in September. But he will be an important depth piece in the squad. A guy that will buy into the project, accept his role, and play for the shirt. And he will no doubt have some moments this season when he is needed.
