Guitar god Rick Derringer has passed away.

Drove through a blizzard to see him at a little club in Connecticut back in February of '78. My ears are still ringing.

Rick had a #1 hit in the US at the age of 17 with a cover of Sloop John B and later had a big hit with Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo. He was in great demand as a guitarist working with artists as diverse as Steely Dan, Johnny and Edgar Winter, and Barbra Streisand.

Boy could flat out play. He was shredding years before Eddie Van Halen got around to it.

Here's a link to a video of him playing Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo as a member of Ringo's All Starr Band:

Legendary racehorse trainer Peter Easterby has died at the age of 95.

Easterby, based in Malton, North Yorkshire, saddled equine greats Sea Pigeon, Night Nurse and Little Owl to big-race victories.

Freddy Forsythe at 86

Author of many spy novels and a cold war hero.

Definitely one of the best researched ( behind Tom Clancy) in the global politics/ espionage word and bless him the only author who used the word vituperative in the second paragraph of a book who I stuck with and who I am glad I did.
