Re: RIP To Those Departed
RIP Gary Waldhorn.
Played Counsellor David Horton in the excellent Vicar of Dibley.
He was 78.
With his death coming less than a year after Trevor Peacock that leaves just 2 surviving cast members from the main original cast.
Dawn French and James Fleet.
Very sad.

Ronnie Spector of the Ronettes. Wonderful voice, Be My Baby might just be the perfect pop song and she survived being married to that psychopath Phil. RIP Ronnie

Re: RIP To Those Departed
Iconic actor and singer Meat Loaf has died at the age of 74.
The music legend died on Thursday night with his wife Deborah by his side.
I was in the business when Bat Out Of Hell was a massive album, one of thousand albums I remember the catalogue number - EPC 82419 on the EPIC label through CBS
Never a big fan myself, I don't own any of his albums.
RIP Marvin Lee

Christ I hope they don't play his music all morning.
Re: RIP To Those Departed - Meat Loaf
His chief songwriter & friend Jim Steinman passed away last year.

Re: RIP To Those Departed - Meat Loaf
Bat Out Of Hell was never what you’d call a fashionable album, in that whenever it would have come out it wouldn’t have fitted in with musical trend of the time. But the fact it was so mega successful (wasn’t it on the charts for something like 2 or 3 years ) shows what a great album it was, albeit definitely one of those Marmite records.
Personally, I really liked it and still play it. Less so the following albums.
We saw Meatloaf at the CIA, now the Motorpoint, back in 1993 (having dug out the ticket stub to see when it was) and ended up on the front row, as from memory they balls up with the booking on the day we were meant to go, so when a second date was added they gave us tickets in the front row.
I remember my wife caught a (somewhat sweat soaked) towel he chucked into the crowd, she couldn’t miss it as it got her square in the chops, and when we got home found a plectrum (with ‘The Snake’ embossed on it) down the front of her shirt, which must have been one of several the guitarist was throwing into the crowd.
RIP Meat

Re: RIP To Those Departed - Meat Loaf
I thought everyone had a copy of Bat out of Hell!!!
Sadly he never surpassed that album,
and as '64 stated Steinman passed and so has Tod Rundgren who did the guitar work on that album.
Like Muppet... I like that album, but not so much any of his other work.

Never a fan myself, but that album was/is iconic, shifting something like 43m copies. Interesting character in interview, I liked him despite not being a fan of the music. RIP

Re: RIP To Those Departed - Meat Loaf
Not here, Hector. I heard the album 1000's of times over a two year period, got sick of it tbh. Same with the likes of Oasis, another band I wouldn't want to hear in my life again, they ripped off The Beatles anyway.
You'd be surprised how many of those type of artists I actually have in my collection, which I'll never play again.
Good old Todd too, this is the place for knowledgable music aficionados
Re: RIP To Those Departed - Meat Loaf
My wife dragged me to the bat out of hell musical a few months back and whilst the story was tripe the music was fantastic (obviously not a patch on meat loaf singing himself though) rejuvenated my love of his music and been top of my playlist ever since.
Re: RIP To Those Departed - Meat Loaf
Witnessed ML as a very young lad at Donnington 83, not my thing personally, was there to listen to Jon Lord & Cozy Powell do their thing with WS, and Ronnie James Dio with his self named band. Other than that the bearded boys from ZZT were class, although WS's lighting & pyrotechnics probably took the plaudits. Seemed to remember ML took the brunt of the bottle throwing which was the fad at the time at Donnington. RIP
