Pep said in that interview he doesn't fit the way City play, dont see how anyone can read anything else into it. He isn't saying Philips is a bad player, he is just not able to do all the things Pep needs from a player in that role.
As for not being able to find a way to fit him in, you dont change a teams way of playing or mess with a teams selection just to fit in ONE player, it has to be the other way round. The player has to be able to adjust to the teams way of playing.

Watching the game tonight and Phillips is not having a good night, appears to be trying a little too hard, I think his days with the Oil men are numbered.

Don’t think Kalvin did anything this evening to push himself into Pep’s 1st team plans going forward

Probably did and if City sell at a loss we have to pay something towards it.

Makes you wonder then what Pep was originally thinking before the move. Being the mastermind that he he is (no sarcasm at all intended), seems odd to get the fit so wrong.

Kalvin does not fit. Why on earth did Pep buy him.

Probably aimed at me, and rightly so. In defence I didn’t see your post. What more can I say? Sorry.

What a waste of a very good Leeds player! It it not odd to me that certain players fit a certain mould (or certain club). Kalvin Phillips was/is only ever a Leeds player. Should have listened to his grandma and stayed (we had to sell him though: needed the money). He lied about moving to Citeh being a dream move right? He would have been a legend here had he stayed his whole career...

I just looked at Peps formation for the Newcastle game via the BBC and it says 3-2-4-1 with KP in the 2.

That should explain everything and it's hard to believe that Pep hasn't watched him in his best role for Bert when he was at Leeds in a 4-1-4-1, last night was the perfect opportunity to see him in his best role, i consider that quite stupid of Pep myself, Southgate does the same, it's like they haven't realised (or don't trust him) that when that 4-1 in front of him goes on the attack, that he can watch the game in front of him, read it, and play that 1 DM role all on his own.

If that then breaks down (which i v much doubt in Citehs case, and it SHOULD be England too) and 2 are needed in the DM role like a 4-2-3-1 then that is where KP's game isn't as effective, so to go 3-2 as the BBC have it last night is even more dumb and asking for trouble.

Hard to believe, but i don't think Pep knows his best games at Leeds were in a 4-1-4-1 and is he too proud or embarrassed to ring Bert and say " Hey Bert give us a clue about this KP lad, i thought you said he was a goodun" ...Which is more likely the case ;-)

I'd move on if i was KP and find a club/manager that plays 4-1-4-1, although i think he could do well for Klopp in the middle of a 4-3-3.

Coming back to Leeds wouldn't do us any favours if DF is playing 4-2-3-1.
Still being proven right years on.
Radz is a businessman - and knows nowt about football.
Orta is a fraud - and knows nowt about footballers.
Bert - A footballing mastermind that they both got lucky with, end of.

Timely member of a clique.

Might have been that Bielsaball was so similar to the way City play it was assumed by both parties...City and Philips that he would have no trouble adapting , from playing style City were the obvious choice....but it hasn't worked out that way .
