Funny story. I came across this record randomly. I was browsing in my favorite record store. They had an excellent staff and selection which was divided by large plastic tabs labelled with band names in those old embossed font stickers. I was going through the 'S' section and hit 'Smashing Pumpkins' with one lonely disc in it and an unusual addendum stuck beneath the band's name on the tab: I had a little mad money on me so I figured what the hell. I was blown away by the record and had a great time introducing the band to my pals before Siamese Dream came out and the band blew up. I'll never forget the label that led me to the discovery though. It was the only time any tab in the store went beyond providing the band name in all the years I shopped there. It looked something like this:
Although, I've put this in my Top 5 in my voting, Onemore.......are you happy it was a 1992 release ? Looks like it was 1991 to me :duno:

Well, s**t Muppet. You're absolutely right. Seems I've thrown a wrench in this whole racket. That's what happens when you rely on memory for this sort of thing. I should have taken the trouble to check, but I was sure Gish was 92. What's more, now that you mention it, I think Gish was already nominated for 1991.

If that's the case I'll go Whale Music by the Rheostatics or you can simply disqualify me...

Onemore, I've disqualified your 'Gish' nomination & replaced it with 'Whale 'Music'

Please could I ask Rook & Cat to delete their Smashing Pumpkins vote & choose another album to add to your original votes.

Thank you for spotting that incorrect entry, Cat

I generally check the nominations, but I was so busy last week & we've been out a lot with us being on holiday this week, I just haven't had the time!

Sorry, Onemore - I tend to work through listening to the nominated albums on spotify during the working day and just happened to notice that it said 1991 for the SP's. Now I wouldn't take what spotify say as gospel, but when you look everywhere else it confirms a 1991 release in this case. Anyhow I replaced my SP's vote with the Rheostatics, so you've lost nothing from me :)

Sorry Rook. And apologies to everyone. I'm an idiot. I can assure you and everyone that I won't rely on my memory again!

Thanks 64 for allowing Whale Music to stand. It's a very fine record and deserves a listen for those who aren't familiar.

When Ken Bruce does popmaster I often get them all bar the year, which at my best I'm usually two years out on and up to 10 .... That's how good my memory for years is

Really weak Cure album winning imo, curate's egg probably describes it best..
