Re: Summer 2022 transfer speculation and squad discussion

Post by CanuckMightyWhite »

I’m actually looking forward to this season.
We are linked with some serious talent, and holding firm on our valuation for Raphinha, and possibly even KP.
We already brought in 3 starters too.

The concerns are whether Marsch’s tactics will work and the gaping hole on the left side of our defence. However, with just regular amount of injuries we are looking like a team that should be comfortably clear of the relegation places. Perhaps even hovering close to or just inside the top 10.

Cjay wrote: Fri Jun 24, 2022 12:00 pm Concerning that we need a cm, Am and striker as things stand but apparently we won't do 2 of the 3 without a sale so we will still be short next season as we really need 2 players each to replace KP and Raph not 1

Downside of having owners who won't invest I suppose.

But more worrying is the fact that we seemingly have no Interest in a left back despite having Firpo and nobody else . . . . . .
Agreed we're loaded at RWB but unless the plan is to have JH play LWB in this system or one of the RWB's then I would bring in a player to start over Firpo for us... It's my #1 need

I thought you were happy with Firpo, mate

Unsure he has enough improvement in him to cope with the PL, hope he proves me wrong.

Massive concern for me!

Fairly but he's all we have and it's the main area we can improve ...

Yes, especially as we have no Dallas possibly for the whole of next season, Stuart isn't a LWB in my opinion anyway.

I thought Dallas looked weak playing LWB last season, ok on limited chances but Firpo was generally better there and got better as the season went which is what you want to see. I think he's good option in a settled defence that know how their fellow defenders are going to play. Add to that stability at DMF and he'll be fine. The untested CB Hjelde showed fairly well at LB the one time he played there, Struijk not so much imo, he's a DMF for me eventually. So we need a second option to give Firpo competition and I'm ok paying for a new starter

Agree on Harrison and I think he'd be fine as a left wing back potentially all be it a risk.

Cant see them signing anyone to replace Firpo because that would be an admission that Firpo has failed and Orta won't want to do that.

Maybe just maybe if Marsch is going to use a back 3 then Firpo may shine because he did so all be it only for 1 season but at Betis, that's why Barcelona signed him?

Going into the season with just Firpo and Harrisom is dodgy though imo.

And Dallas isnt expected to be fit till atleast January so can't rely on him

Jack is not that great defending, he does a job & gets in the way a bit, but generally Harrison gets caught out of position & is often skinned.

PL clubs would soon suss out our vulnerability down the left side.

We ain't going nowhere fast if we don't learn from our mistakes & rectify them to save a scout's face, no other PL management would run their club with that kind of thinking

Disagree with that, Orta in a perfect position to add to the LWB area and with a player that can compete...

Defence in the 4-2-2-2 is basically the two CB's with the DMF's protecting and the wing backs helping out... It's a 6 man offensive front with the wing backs playing up the pitch. Also players can learn and get better... You can't use a previous seasons form to judge how a new season will go

So, with KP's imminent departure, and Rapha still favourite to leave, looks like we have a heck of a lot of recruitment still to get through.

Camara/Berge as replacement for KP is a must
Replacement for Rapha if he goes
Otavia
De Ketelaere
LB competition
Experienced GK backup

I would be very happy with that. Mind, I don't expect us to be signing any of these except Berge, but even then more likely Tyler Adams who must seem an odds on favourite to be recruited.

Time to see if Orta and Radz have it in them.

Much work to be done Lumi as you say.

Really we need two cms as Klich is knackered and Forshaw is made of biscuits but we definitely won't sign 2 so 1 quality player to replace KP atleast.

Otavio as a 10 would be ideal in addition to an inevitable Raphinha replacement but you can bet it will be one or the other position wise.

Striker, left back and goalie.

So imo we really need at the very least as things stand now.

Another quality attacking midfielder/10.
A Kp Dm/Cm replacement (but really 2).
A starting quality Striker.
A left back/wing back
Goalie.

And then the inevitable Raph replacement.

I expect though

Striker
Raph replacement
Goalie
Midfielder.

Just don't think we will get the 10 we require.

I agree. Though Harrison may as well be the culprit as.

One thing that the Leeds fanbase will learn soon enough is this.

If you thought Bielsa was a square pegs type just wait until you see where Jesse is coming from... As long as he has a couple of specialist DFMs he uses multi positional players.

And one area where his system is particularly weak is the exposure the wing backs receive. .

Just wait and see.

Or if you cant do some mugging up
'We can wait for the next game with serenity' Marcelo Bielsa

'Would he kill his granny to win a match?' Bobby Collins

"Anyone need a hug? Jesse Marsch

We're very much on the same page regarding what needs to be done. I'd much rather see Camara come in now as KP replacement but rumour elsewhere was that the Adams deal had progressed somewhat this morning, probably with the imminent KP sale. I wouldn't be surprised to see an Adams announcement early next week.

Also seems De Ketelaere has ruled out a move to Leeds, but no surprise there.

I'd take Adams for sure. But it's too difficult to say that given Kalvin's departure today. In fact, I'd fill bad for the kid and an impossible act he'd have to follow - a Yank trying to fill a local Leeds boys boots

There does not seem to be much movement on strengthening our defence up till now. I readily accept we need to build up in most areas, but if we keep the same defence as last season I think we will get the same results, concede a shed load of goals. I understand playing a less gung ho style of football may help to a degree, but I just don't see Llorente, Koch, Cooper and Struijk with Firpo at left back inspire me with any confidence. We either need to put our belief in Cresswell (my preferred option) or bring a more reliable centre back in to replace Llorente. I also understand that an attacking fullback is a big bonus, but his main priority should be to stop goals, don't feel we get this with Firpo.

For me we need a solid reliable Left back, cover for Raph when he leaves, an experienced back up goalkeeper, a proven goalscorer and a defensive midfield player to replace Kalvin.

Well we have 6 premier class CB's imo, we added hopefully a good RWB making that a position of strength. We also added a DMF so tbf apart from needing a LWB it's not an area that needs much attention
