I don't think he's gonna grow much more now.... bulking up might not be great for him. In AF we'd call him a gadget player

I wasn't thinking upwards but more outwards if you know what I mean. Perhaps he doesn't need to 'bulk' up but he definitely needs to get more savvy about using his body to protect the ball or to not get bumped off so easy. Not a problem for him in the U23 but PL defenders who have been around for a bit will knock him all about. Still, I think he's an excellent talent and one who deserves some proper first team consideration sooner than later. I'd love for us to have a couple of dead rubbers to give him and one or two others some decent minutes before the season is out.

Hasn't seemed a problem when he has played for the first team... I think we're too quick to try to pigeon hole what we think a good player should look like and play like.... Putting on muscle might see him lose a step and then he's a different player...

Marsch OUT

Football has undergone a process of bielsification; pressing and possessing, passing rather than dribbling, intercepting high up the field rather than making last-ditch tackles, are in vogue.

5-1 to WH.

boys against erm... better boys today.

With our next game two weeks away and this a cup game I am surprised the likes of Greenwood and Jimmy didn't get included.
And Kennah, for that matter.

Can't comment much as I did not see it, but glad Joseph scored. Anyone know how he's settling in? Does he look a player or not?

u23s losing away to Brighton

0-1 with 5 minutes left.

Passing has been shocking, whatever the seniors are suffering from it looks like the kiddies have caught it.

Quite a strong Leeds side out today.

McGuirk just hits the bar...

Remember the call for Bate to play for the first 11

Not looking good.

Thankfully, as a club we're not in the same plight as Derby.

I thought Chelsea were meant to have the best academy in the world? 🤔 Nothing without Lewis Bate. 8-)

If that is your only metric play him every week. ( less than a half though)

Sadly he should be standing head and shoulders above the other U23s week in week out for him to be warranting a call up to the seniors, sadly he isn't ( and wasn't when he did get a game) and thankfully the clamour for him to do so has died a natural death,

It's surprising how many think the step up from 23's to Premier league is a catwalk, Bert knew how to take his time though, an old head like that knows when the time is right.

Complacency not creeping in i hope, spreads like Omicron does that.

Luca Thomas is the first player ever to score in 10 consecutive u18 games. It's important we handle his development well, as he could be a special talent and a ruthless finisher, which are so hard to find. Whether it's u23s or a loan next season, he should be above u18s.

The gap between u23s and PL is huge but there's currently nowhere for them to go. Summerville, Gelhardt, Cresswell, Greenwood, Drameh have long outgrown that level and need stronger football or it will hamper their development. We either link up with another side and loan them out or we create a B team where they can face better opposition in friendlies. I'd prefer the latter.
