The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 2nd March) Leeds identify Amorim as possible Bielsa replacement
Good Morning. It's Tuesday 2nd March, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Leeds identify Amorim as possible Bielsa replacement
Leeds have identified Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim as a potential replacement for Marcelo Bielsa should he quit Elland Road at the end of the season. Bielsa's contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and as of yet the 65 year old has not decided on his future! Portuguese journalist Bruno Andrade has reported that Amorim has been identified as a possible replacement for Bielsa.
Whites Radrizzani would like nothing more than Bielsa to commit to another season. He must recognise however that history shows that the former Marseille, Lazio and Lile gaffer does not stay in one place for too long. At 65yo, how many more years will he want to manage for?
Berardi is back - with a vengeance
Fans favourite Gaetano Berardi played his first competitive game for over seven months, since the former Swiss International tore his ACL during their Promotion winning trip to Pride Park last June. (The Anterior Cruciate Ligament is one of the major ligaments in your knee). Berardi appeared for the U23's against Crystal Palace at the Beckenham Sports Centre, South London.
The 32 year old hadn't lost any of his combative guile.- 45 minutes of sliding challenges, clearances and full-bloodiness tackles demonstrated to Mark Jackson's team that he is getting closer to first team action.
Unfortunately, the London curse took affect on the young Whites. Exciting winger Crysencio Summerville was sent for an early bath after just twenty minutes after picking up two yellow cards (first for dissent) to the astonishment of everyone else at the game. Leeds were well on top up til this point but fell behind
The Londoners took the lead just after the break when Cresswell failed to clear his lines. They doubled their advantage in injury time as Leeds went searching for an equaliser. You'll rarely see a more unjust scoreline, but that's football, and that's why we love it!
Koch returns to training
Robin Koch is to return to training this week. The German International centre-back went under the surgeons knife after aggravating an existing knee injury sustained on the opening game of the season against Liverpool. The injury was exasperated during their trip to Stamford Bridge last December and surgery took place a few days later. The operation went well, and the 24yo was recently spotted walking around Thorp Arch. It has now been revealed that Koch is to return to light duties this week.
Who would be your centre-backs of choice once all fit? Berardi, Koch, Cooper and Llorente?

Koch and Cooper for me and Bielsa right now I'd think if everyone is available.

As a fan for well over 50 years I’ve seen plenty of unjust scorelines but that’s Leeds United and that’s what happens, whether we love it or not is a moot point Elland!
When we have Koch, Llorente, Cooper and Struijk all fit they won’t all be able to play so it’ll be interesting to see which partnership Bielsa will consider to be his best.

P.S.
I don’t want to tempt fate by speculating about Marcelo Bielsa’s future, although I do understand that the club have to.

Didn't Bielsa say the other week that he's already made his mind up but will be keeping it to himself until we mathematically can't go down, though if the owners are insistent he would tell them his decision. Also read he has said Leeds is the closest he's felt to being at home and it is on par with being at Newell's, he gets the passion of the fans and he feels loved and wanted. he got us up, then consolidates us for a couple of seasons he will see it as job done, 1 season more imo.

Not as ‘exasperated’ as I am with the inability of journalists to be able to use the English language. Could he have meant “The injury was exacerbated”?

Wonderful news about Berardi. Can’t wait to see him run on for his first Premier League match.

Plus Berardi back in contention as cover if he stays with Leeds next season!Byebyegeegee wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 10:21 am As a fan for well over 50 years I’ve seen plenty of unjust scorelines but that’s Leeds United and that’s what happens, whether we love it or not is a moot point Elland!

Ruben Amorin.
Fully expect Bielsa to stay but you can never be 100% certain so makes sense to have a plan.
Tbh Amorin seems very highly rated and has drawn praise for his exciting football and his achievements (Leading Braga to win only their 2nd ever Taca De Liga Cup).
And he has Sporting 9 points clear at the top of the Portuguese Premier league and unbeaten.
So as far as replacements go he would seemingly be a very interesting one.
Much more exciting than Gerrard or Eddie Howe.
Berardi
Good to see him back on the pitch, wouldn't expect to see him play much part in the league given his age and the fact he is well down the pecking order and coming back from a serious injury.
Deserves a game at the end to say goodbye though. Keeping him any longer would be sentimental and Bielsa doesnt do sentiment.
Robin Koch.
Would be nice to get him fit to for the run in, it it gives us a genuine alternative at DM rather than having to shoehorn poor Struijk in there.
If all match fit and up to speed its very hard to argue that a Spanish and German international shouldn't be ahead of a bit part Scottish one.
Whether thats how it pans out next season who knows but you would expect so?

If the wife tells him is she wants him home.... I will leave it there.
He couldn't have been any clearer for me in his statement. He's going nowhere until the job is done at Leeds, and its only just started.
Great to have Koch back training. Bialsa is not a rotation man normally so when we have all 4 CB available 2 will have to bide their time.
And i would even have Berra back providing Bialsa moves him back to LB.
