Won't say anything bad about anyone in this game; not our side, not Liverpool, and not the referee. All performed admirably, in my opinion.

Liverpool had better watch out when they come to ER, especially if we can have our fans back.

Smudge3920 wrote: Sat Sep 12, 2020 6:48 pm It is ridiculous, no one can move or think that fast to pull his arm in when a shot is taken that close... rule is making it impossible for defenders as they will have to play in the box with arms straight down by their sides!!!!!...again impossible... proximity has to be taken into account, and common sense!... same as the penalty rules goalkeeper not supposed to move until the ball is kicked?struck... technically it is impossible to save a penalty unless he doesn't move and the ball shot straight at him,
I agree that the rule is stupid. They have taken judgement out of decision making for the ref.

A very welcome return - shame about the 2 penalties but we'll improve.
A heart-stopper at times but yet I felt really comfortable watching our performance.

I foresee at least a top-half finish.
Much will depend on our next performance.

At the end of the day, we looked like we belong here. And the world bleeding well knows it as well.

Lots of deserved compliments in the comments section of the Guardian's match report.

A classic match

From the post made by Harry...

quote...
"were behind within four minutes of their return to the big time. Controversially so too, as the handball for which referee Michael Oliver immediately awarded a penalty could have been overturned under the new interpretation of the rule. There was no question that Robin Koch’s arm was outside the ’body line"

Same team for Hull but Pablo for Rodrigo. We need more games as no pre-season.

We won't get 2 penalties against us every game lads, otherwise it'll be 76 conceded.

John in Louisiana wrote: Sat Sep 12, 2020 6:39 pm Exactly. Carry your arm out wide like that and they will call it on you every time.

It's a damned shame.

How many other teams go to Anfield and take the game to them like we did today? City, maybe, but certainly nobody outside the top six.

We played our game and nearly beat last year's runaway winner. Bielsa's game is going to work this year. We belong in this league.

Reading some of the comments you would swear we were well beaten. When a team, any team can go to the home of the Champions, have the majority of possession and score 3 goals, concede 2 pens and be beaten by 1 is a fantastic confidence booster and looks really well for the rest of the season. The two signings conceded the pens but given a couple of weeks with Marcelo will sort out some of the unfamiliarity with other players. Ayling was brilliant especially in the first half and a lot of really good performances all round. The speed with which they got forward and in numbers was class. A little bit of me worried beforehand that we would be beaten well and worse, totally out played, this did not happen. Bet you Manure and Shi**y are now a lot more worried by us than at 5o'clock. Proud of the lads, they had a real go and we scored two excellent goals, the finish fro m Klich was sublime.
At least all the games won't be that hard.
Three excellent goals - you need to credit Bamford for anticipation and sniffing against maybe the best centre back in the world.

If he'd stayed on we'd had a point imo... Oh, the irony...

I'd play most of the same team and maybe rest some that look match fit already.

Would like to see Koch and Strujik at the back again. But I'd also get starts for Rodrigo, Roberts, Alioski, and Shackleton too.
