Pascal Struijk

Post by Cjay »

As the dust settles on the departure of the Swedish cult hero we look to the future.

Step forward Pascal :)

Since he arrived he has looks imo our best cb in the u23s.

Tall and powerful he has bullied cbs at u23 level since he arrived.

But he is oh so much more, he played for the legendary Ajax academy, he is a technical and classy cb.

So could he be our next breakouts star?

Pascal Struijk

Country: Belgium | DOB: 11/08/1999 | Position: Defender

Aapo Halme may have got the nod this year when Bielsa faced injuries to Jansson, Ayling and Berardi but his central defensive partner in the U23s, Pascal Struijk, is just as promising. Struijk has pedigree having been signed from this seasons Champions League semi-finalists Ajax. At 6 foot 2 inches he is a towering presence who is dominant in the air but looks just as assured with the ball at his feet. The perfect defensive player for the Bielsa system don’t be surprised to see him feature for the first team this coming season.

I reckon Ben White will be ahead of Struijk in the pecking order

We'll know more once friendlies start, I suspect. Would like some updates from training tbh, just to see who is training with the 1st team.

I can't make either this week, which is a shame. Hopefully LUTV will be streaming it though.

I'm sure they'll be much like last year where the line-ups are far from the starting 11.

The final pre season game will give us an idea of the starting eleven for Bristol City.
Whoever starts that game will almost certainly be in the team for BC barring injury of course.
All the friendlies before that will just be about giving the whole squad game time to get their fitness levels up.

I watched bits and pieces of the U23s last season and he looks a very assured performer. Decent pedigree but the question is whether or not he can step up from the PDL which, with all due respect, is little more than a training session league. Corberan is part of Bielsa's team, so the main man will know about him. If he rates him, he'll have a squad number and perhaps an opportunity to be involved.

Thought he looked far more assured than Halme for the u23's, could well step up to the mark. As it stands he must be 4th choice though.

I read on here he is injured, anyone know how long for? 4 weeks?

He played on the 16th, so 4 weeks would put him back a week today.

If Berardi's card isnt overturned (it should be) i hope MB plays Struijk.

Phil Hay seems to think he is likely to break through this season.

Such a shame he misses out on his shot at the first team, the sooner he comes in and shows why we didn’t buy another CB the better!

It's not like he'd have got a chance anyway. Bamford would probably be picked at CB before him.

Apparently played the KP role the other day and did very well.

Surprised he hasnt had a chance yet but with Forshaw out for god knows how long (wouldn't be shocked if he didn't play again this season).

Could Pascal take the dm backup role?

He suffered a "minor injury" at the end of September and has only been seen once since, on Quest.

What i find odd is they dont say whats wrong with him or when he will be back?

Been nearly 3 months.

Hopefully, as imo White didn't work out too well, it's a position you need to play regularly, not fill in now and again..
