The #LUFC Breakfast Debate (Tuesday 13th August) - Leeds plot capture of Owen Beck
Good Morning. It's Tuesday 13th August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road...
Leeds plot Beck capture
Leeds are set to battle it out with QPR and Celtic for highly talented Liverpool starlet Owen Beck. The exciting left-wing-back has been made available for a loan move, after impressive displays north of the border with Dundee last season. Beck is highly thought of at Anfield, but at 22, and two years of his six year contract remaining, Leeds could do a lot worse than try to make the loan move permanent.
Beck has been part of the Welsh setup since his U15 days, and will know Amps, Rodon and James, which could give the Whites an advantage over their competition. Full-backs are few and far between at Leeds, and with Junior Firpo's injury record, it's a position where they desperately need both cover, and competition.
Blades win race to sign Rak-Sakyi
Sheffield Utd have won the race to sign Crystal Palace starlet Jesurun Rak-Sakyi on a season-long-loan, and will undergo a medical at their Shirecliffe training ground later today. A host of Championship outfits including Leeds had also been linked with the 21yo, but the lure of guaranteed game time was something Daniel Farke was not prepared to offer. The Whites are looking to land a big-money signature to replace Summerville, which would inevitably push the Palace youngster further down the pecking order.
Rowe welcomed back to first-team action
Leeds target Jonathan Rowe is set to feature in Norwich City's midweek Caribou Cup match against Stevenage on Wednesday night, after supposedly being dropped from the side that lost to Oxford Utd on Saturday. Journalist Graeme Bailey reported last night that Canaries Manager Johannes Hoff Thorup felt Rowe was not in the right frame of mind to play last weekend, due to speculation linked him to both Marseilles and Leeds, and duly dropped him.
This contradicts earlier reports, insisting that Rowe himself, had refused to play. These latter suggestions seem a lot more credible, as Rowe was made to train with the Norwich youngsters yesterday. For the time being at least, the Canaries are singing from the same perch, and Rowe will return to first-team action. Perhaps if Leeds made an official offer, things would become clearer?

Surely guaranteed game time is a myth, how can any team or manager promise that? You train and play well and you get in the team, don’t and clearly you won’t be - sounds very entitled.
Hopefully it’s wrong but I got a feeling this season will be Burnley and sheff utd and then everyone else

if Rowe was doing Gnonto and refusing to play, then it would seem that he has an attitude problem, and trying to force a move.
To diffuse this impression that he is a troublesome, the manager would have to put out a statement that it was he that dropped him... because he felt Rowe was not motivated.
Either way, it seems that his head has been turned. Either he is making up protest, or the manager is playing politics... we have no trouble here... Norwich is a local club for local people.
The pink un says that he will not play at stevenage and the manager says that he will... that just spells confusion in the ranks.
We will just have to wait and see if he plays in the cup... if he does, then I think he will be staying at Norwich.
The have already sold Sara and another player has just gone to Celtic for £5M... perhaps Rowe is a player too far.

Mins played can be stipulated in the terms of the loan. It is a case of whether a club is willing to be held to ransom. Players often get recalled from loan if the initial terms are not being met.WhiteRose wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 8:45 am Surely guaranteed game time is a myth, how can any team or manager promise that? Yeah I get the stipulation in the contract but it still can’t be guaranteed, even discounting injuries if the player has the wrong attitude or isn’t very good then regardless of the recall they won’t get played.

When bamford was limping after his first engagement on saturday, I thought, here we go again. but bless him, he carried on for 15 minutes.

I agree, but if a club loans a player having agreed to the stipulations regarding mins, common sense does prevail with injuries. But if a club does not meet the requirements of the loan when the player has no injuries etc - they run the risk of ruining a relationship with the parent club, which may have a knock on effect further down the line if they gain a reputation for not helping to develop players on loan to them.

Spence came in from Spurs and everyone had high hopes, gets injured straight away.
makes a few games, even playing out of position at LB instead of RB, and by Christmas he is gone back to Spurs to be shipped out again.
Wonder how many minutes he fulfilled in his loan contract?

That to me is the most frightening and I can't believe we are only a couple of weeks away from the window closing. A couple of injuries literally in any position and we're screwed. FFS get it sorted out.The Subhuman wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 11:44 am Goalkeeper

Probably worse than you think. We're likely to have 2 or 3 players out at any given point, and Bamford and Byram will need to be managed. No axe to grind here just facts as they stand.MightyWhites wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 2:12 pm That to me is the most frightening and I can't believe we are only a couple of weeks away from the window closing. I'm very bad with names ... for instance I keep wanting to call Rothwell, Ashwell or Rothford or even Joe Journeyman

I’m sure the capture of Beck will just lead to the usual stream of abuse against Farke.
I’ll brook no argument on that score.
