Was reading about this on the BBC News website just now………a seeming example of absolutely senseless environmental vandalism
The world famous 300yr Sycamore
‘Robin Hood’s tree’ that stood by Hadrian’s Wall at ‘Sycamore Gap’ was cut down overnight…..it is reported that the Police have arrested a 16yr old boy in connection with the matter.

Re: General Chat
Well I had my little trip to Italy, great time on the Amalfi coast and a few other little places like Capri, Pompeii and Herculaneum and stayed in some nice tidy apartments, both rustic and modern.
Naples did my bloody head in though with the sheer volume of traffic on the roads, scooters darting around from all angles left the wife a nervous wreck.
Naples like many other European cities was so polluted that it made me quite ill and gave me a nasty chest infection and it is so noisy 24/7, I won't be going there again.
I always suspected that all these clean air zones in the UK are a massive cash grab, now I am positive they are just that, because if any where needed them first it has to be Italy. (China and India too but that won't happen)

Re: General Chat
Spent most of today out and about in various locations in Cardiff following, Kate (our younger daughter) whilst she was taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon. She'd done next to no training (well I don't think going down the Students Union for cheap beer nights counts
) but she finished in a very respectable sub 2h 30mins......and, importantly she raised over £700 for a local cerebral palsy charity, who helped us hugely when our elder daughter was very young. Very proud of her
However, as to her suggestion of me doing it next year

Lots of brass bands about?
Remember talking to you about it as I did it in 2022.

You must be a very proud dad, Cat

Yet another doctor strike this week
How many more people are going to lose their lives due to these controversial strikes.
How much longer do patients have to wait in horrible pain for serious operations.
Many employees earn far lower salaries & are struggling financially generally, but have to make do.
My dear mum would be turning in her grave, nursing all her life, a dedicated sister at Leeds General Infirmary/St James & a midwife district nursing on a bicycle as she didn't learn to drive until late in her life.

When driving to Lahti the kids in the car always knew we were getting near when they saw Pallopää (Ballhead) a strange growth at the top of a fir tree.Muppet the Cat wrote:Was reading about this on the BBC News website just now………a seeming example of absolutely senseless environmental vandalism

A few years ago some senseless youths cut the tree down. Folks felt sad when that landmark disappeared. Sent from my Redmi Note 8 Pro using Tapatalk

Is that a parasitic plant like mistletoe?
Re: General Chat
I once researched it and apparently it is caused by a fungus

That sounds a bit nippy, Foxy.......are you some sort of Kenyan speedster in disguise
Didn't see any brass bands as it goes.........but one of the spots I did stand to cheer her past was by Cardiff prison, so they would have been drowned out in any case by the inmates banging their metal scram plates on the window bars.
And no, I don't think I'll take it up. We know two people who took up running in their mid/late 50's and both died of a heart attack (one whilst doing a triathlon).

No Cat. It’s actually slow for my age group. There’s 55+ doing sub 1.30 in most half marathons.Muppet the Cat wrote: ↑Mon Oct 02, 2023 11:24 pm That sounds a bit nippy, Foxy.......are you some sort of Kenyan speedster in disguise

I was also running 40k a week then. More like 10 now.
I don’t remember the prison but the bit along the front was a lovely part of the run unlike Roath Park lake which was purgatory.
I think some people just take up running and go to hard. You’ve got to build it up slowly.

The unelected Sunak to scrap the HS2 high-speed rail-line, maintaining the north/south divide.
Bye bye you posh tw*t, you've just lost the majority of the northern vote after breaking promises once again.
