Lockerbie

I don’t normally watch a lot of normal television but, tonight there’s something on about the Lockerbie disaster in 1988, a pal of mine, Glen Bouckley and his new wife Paula, both sadly perished along with many others.
I’ve followed the story over the years, so will watch with interest tonight, I’ve been to the site in Scotland to pay my respects to Glen and Paula as well as all the other unfortunate victims.
They were going across to visit the in-laws at the time of the outrage.
35 years this Xmas
RIP all onboard and also those whose sadly passed away on the ground.

A very sad, horrific time for the Lockerbie community.
RIP to Glen, Paula & those who lost their lives needlessly.

I'm sure I saw something at Ryburn Valley High about them if they were the ones from Halifax?

I didn't realise it was on. I will watch it on catch up. Incredible that it was 35 years ago.

I remember it well, was living in London at the time and flew home from Heathrow at roughly the same time as that flight and the shock when I heard about it when I got home. Was chatting to a girl in the bar who was excited to be going back home to New York for the holidays , don’t know if that was her flight but I really hope not. I’ll probably watch the program but it will bring back terrible memories for all the families involved.

Yea it would have been Glen, his wife was American, Glen was a good friend of your mate A .

Thought it was. I can remember going to look round the school for my daughter and saw it on the wall. Such an awful thing to happen.

Just a mention for RNLI.
42 years ago this week ,all hands lost on Penlee lifeboat, in an act of selfless heroic bravery on a truly horrendous night.
My mother was born in Mousehole, and I still find it hard to comprehend how they found it in themselves to launch in such seas.

Well said madron, RNLI, another lot that are selfless in helping others in extreme difficulties and putting their own lives at risk.

I remember that Ron. I was working abroad (no news channel) but my Mum and dad were on holiday in Cornwall. Mum sent me a postcard and ended her message with that awful news. I've never forgotten her words

Watched the first new Lockerbie drama last night, I saw my mates name on the screen the reporter was checking, unbelievable that, they can alter certain things in a drama but they can't alter true names.

“The boy who fell out of the sky” by Ken Dornstein is highly recommended.
His brother was on the Lockerbie flight.
A while since I read it but the passage about him being found still in his seat and seemingly his body in tact was almost unbelievable. Maybe I’ve remembered it incorrectly.

Sorry for you loss MC, it's hard losing friends, may they and all that were on board rest in peace.
John Lydon and his wife were booked on that flight but because she took too long to pack her case they missed check in.

Ther was an article last week by Jim Swire's ( played by Colin Firth) other daughter who asked the filmmakers not to include her in the film. Legally she was unable to stop them.
