Weather not looking promising today for first Ireland match.
Surely if he plays and doesn't get runs he surely will pull out (or else why would he play v Ireland).
The fact that he's even playing shows there is a problem.
I'm starting to think he is droppable, but i'm v much on the fence.

Cricket is most definitely a game for form, of all the people for Bazball not to suit i didn't think it would be Joe, and i'm still undecided.

I just feel he's completely out of knick for whatever reason, i've no doubt he'll come back but a rest if only to collect his thoughts should help if it's nothing deeper, atm i feel we're taking a risk with him and who'da thunk that huh. Like i said, i'd keep him in the squad but be looking at playing Roy instead.

Shame about today's game. Was a chance for a few of the peripheral players to get a chance.

I hope this works, it's what he needed...

Tom Kohler-Cadmore has replaced Joe Root in England's squad for the remainder of the ODI Series against Ireland.

Uncapped batter Kohler-Cadmore is set to join the team in Nottingham following the conclusion of Somerset's County Championship match against Kent at Taunton, which is scheduled to finish on Friday.

Former England captain Root has been rested in the build-up to the Men's ODI World Cup, which begins on 5 October in India.

England's first ODI with Ireland at Headingly on Wednesday was abandoned without play due to rain.

Not sure why Joe Root needed a rest. Would have thought more time at the crease would have been better

This has been going on a while now Andrew, it's only coz it's Root it's slipped under the radar because we've all become accustomed to him being part of the furniture, plus he'll throw in a ton or 70 odd in the blink of an eye, but this patch seems to be his worst.

I think he's been advised to stop trying to play through it and just have a rest, i can't remember the last time he had one and we've also just been through the Ashes which must've been gutting and he wasn't particularly at his best then.

I think it starts on 7th October in India, i'd give him some time with his family and re-energise hopefully.

I wouldn't think this for a test match, but leaving Joe out and replacing with Roy or Salt doesn't weaken us any, especially in a one dayer.

Joe 26 n/o today - 40 balls, 1 four, 116 mins v Bangladesh.

I'm hoping this is him going back to his Roots, and being the steadying force whilst others crash, bang, wallop.

This from Aggers below is exactly my thoughts on Root and what has been happening with him in the Bazball era up to now and how it's been affecting his form and play in a bad way, in bold, is what he should be aiming to do.

'One issue that has come out of the series against New Zealand is the form of Joe Root after he made three single-figure scores and a 29.

I would not say I am worried - just a bit surprised. Root is a fantastic 50-over player, don't forget.

Is he still feeling he has to push his scoring rate too much, like he may have felt with 'Bazball' in the Test team?

If he is, he must forget that because he already scores at a good rate without taking too many chances.

His approach should be: come in at number three if England lose an early wicket, bat the majority of the overs and score a hundred.

That way, with Buttler, Bairstow, Stokes and Liam Livingstone around him, England will score big totals.

He really needs to go back to his Roots now Joe and just play his best natural way, pick the right ball, hang around and just keep it ticking along nicely, leave it to the others to hit out at the right time, and judge his performance on how our wickets are dropping.

Absolutely loving this attacking approach from England, looks like everyone just being told to chillax, and to just do what you're comfortable with.

Great stuff, trust yourselves.

GS is a dick.

Game on, advantage NZ, 283 needed, probably 35 short on this wicket, let's see.

Over to the bowlers.

That's Roots game - Be the anchor.
