Eurosport has all the events live too and at about a fiver for a month that's not too bad.. Japan obviously needing to sell to the highest bidder with gate receipts being a virtual non factor.

Think we can put this down to covid too..

Apparently nothing to do with COVID. (according to what I heard on 5 live) Eurosport bought the rights back in 2015 and sold part of them to the beeb on the proviso that they can only show 2 live events at a time. Undoubtedly the highest bidder though.

Eurosport have been showing the Olympics for years. I'm pretty sure I saw Sydney 2000 on there.

Discovery in 2015 took full control of Eurosport and then shelled out $1.3 billion for rights to broadcast summer/winter Olympic games across most European countries from 2018-2024 and for 2022 and 2024 in the UK and France.

There is a legislative requirement on the company to make at least a portion of the TV rights free to air. This is thanks to the presence of the Summer Olympics on the Government's 'Major Events' list

Just looked it up :)

Three great swimming finals so far today - women's 100m butterfly, men's 100m breaststroke and women's 400m freestyle. Absolute champions in action.

Don 't start trying to put Yorkshire on the medals table. IIRC Yorkshire beat Australia at the last Olympics (Sorry Harry :) )

Silver for Alex Yee in the Triathlon - he was miles behind after the swimming, too. (Well, maybe not miles, but 20 seconds is a long way in a triathlon.) Jonny Brownlee just misses out on a medal, finishing 5th.

I get confused, not sure whether you are English, Aussie or Saffer.
