I think we have to accept that we aren't going to be splashing the cash like we did last season given that we have had a whole season without gate receipts. For all we probably made more from our league position than budgeted we have probably lost something upwards of £30m from having no fans. We have spent around £30m on signing Harrison and Firpo and proabbly another £5m on the younger players. Additionally you have the cost of the new pitch (plus whatever we paid to Spurs for their one) as well as the JKA situation. My guess if we probably have around £20m in reserve in case the right signing becomes available.dester23 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 12:37 pm Asensio is average at best. Have you watched any of his 50 last games. He loses every ball he gets.
After spending 100 million last summer is obvious that this year will be more calmed. Lets no forget we have to pay 20 millions for Agustin.
The team last yeear performed well even we suffered a lot of injuries.
I dont see the point of signing too many expensive players for bench, honestly.
Summer 2021 squad and transfer discussion- No more incomings for us.

Think this season will be a tough one without further reinforcements, but let's see!
Re: Summer 2021 squad and transfer discussion.
No one's asking for, or expecting, us to spend as much as last season. But we've spent £25-30m this year, another £30-35m on top of that is hardly gonna bankrupt us. We have a guaranteed £97m for finishing bottom, then add on top new kit, capacity crowds at ER, commercial revenue, sponsors. You get an extra £1m for every game on tv, so add another £20m+. We should be pushing over £200m turnover this year.weasel wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 4:27 pm I think we have to accept that we aren't going to be splashing the cash like we did last season given that we have had a whole season without gate receipts. If we're using those funds to buy back ER and improve the academy facilities, then fine. If we're just sitting on money for no reason or it's going to Radz' back pocket, I'll be really annoyed.

We are planning a stadium expansion as well.SG90 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 01, 2021 8:45 pm No one's asking for, or expecting, us to spend as much as last season. I think most of us forget that we borrowed money last year to strengthen the squad for the nest TWO seasons.
Hence why we wanted Gallagher on a loan rather than spending £25-30m on a midfielder.

Re: Summer 2021 squad and transfer discussion.
Marcelo Bielsa was spotted yesterday watching the Huddersfield vs Sheffield Wednesday match.
Not overly strange, he has been spotted watching Huddersfield and other non LUFC matches multiple times during his years here.
However, we are being linked with Huddersfield midfielder Lewis O'Brien.
Could be coincidence or maybe the boss was doing some scouting?
However Huddersfield apparently want £10mil which is more than Palace paid for Olise who was a standout in the Championship last season, O'brien was not.
Hopefully nothing in it at that price.
£2-3mil maybe.

Everyone does that though. You don't get the TV money until the end of the season, and obviously just coming up from the Championship, we had no money.

Re: Summer 2021 squad and transfer discussion.
Radz was interviewed last August and said they were paid most of the £100m up front and that they were spending it but it should be seen as enough investment to ensure Prem football for two seasons.

Re: Summer 2021 squad and transfer discussion.
Not transfer news as such.
But it was interesting that as far as i could see Victor Orta was nowhere to be seen during any of the Kristoffer Klaesson stuff.
Not the video unveiling, not the social media pictures, don't even think he did his usual few lines for the written media like he usually does when we sign a new player?
So presumably he is abroad somewhere ? Maybe isolating? As far as i remember he definitely was nowhere to be seen in any of the Kristoffer Klaesson stuff

City handed out £100 mill for Grealish and now Messi could be on his flight to Manchester as well, meanwhile Leeds are struggling to buy Lewis O’Brien for 10 mill.

Not clubs mate just one Citeh... they are out of control it is ludicrous and the quicker they impose caps on salaries, squads etc the better it will be for footballAllrounder wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 8:35 pm City handed out £100 mill for Grealish and now Messi could be on his flight to Manchester as well, meanwhile Leeds are struggling to buy Lewis O’Brien for 10 mill.

Agree, it’s not funny anymore. You can just hand out the PL trophy to them already.Smudge3920 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 8:39 pm Not clubs mate just one Citeh... they are out of control it is ludicrous and the quicker they impose caps on salaries, squads etc the better it will be for football

For all the nudges about Manchester City's spending and the questions about how the club manages to do deals like this one without falling foul of profit and sustainability rules, it is worth noting they are now responsible for the biggest single purchase by an English club during their Abu Dhabi ownership for only the second time.
The first occasion was that never-to-be-forgotten night in 2008 when Sheikh Mansour went on an elaborate sweep of available players to prove he was a man to be taken seriously and spent £50m on Brazilian striker Robinho.
In the same period, Manchester United have held the record seven times. It is United's £89m purchase of Paul Pogba in 2016 that the Grealish deal has overtaken.
