One of my favourite grounds and away days. Much transformed over the last 25 years but the away end is still the original stand from years ago but it generates a fantastic atmosphere when it’s packed with 3,000+ Leeds fans. It’s The Valley home to Charlton

👍 Rich - The Valley, home of Charlton Athletic FC.
Agree a nice ground. My first trip there was actually our last visit in Sep 2019, when the wife and I went down for a weekend in Greenwich to meet up with a family of Charlton fans we’d met on holiday the previous year. Pre-match beers were in a pub round the corner from the ground called The Royal Oak (I think). We were in the stand to the left in the picture below.

It is the Royal Oak as I’ve had a quick pre match one in there myself. Most away fans gather in the Antigallican close to Charlton railway station.

My first visit was in 83 when the ground was in a sorry state with vast overgrown terraces and they left not long after for a number of years having to share with Crystal Palace. We won the game 1-0 in 83 courtesy of John Sheridan

Charlton is the one London ground I've never been to. I always seemed to get unlucky with ticket applications or wasn't able to go for whatever reason in the years we played them in the Championship and League One. Would have loved to have visited in the days when they had that vast, open terrace that ran all the way along the East side of the ground. Looked fantastic.

Aye I remember that day, dreadful game with Charlton scoring a scruffy winner.

The day of the the Casilla racist incident of course!

Long journey home.

I’ve played on worse!

I’m not sure but think this might be an older picture because it looks like UK but not a ground I’m familiar with and it’s sizeable so suggesting a biggish club.

Thought it had an Irish feel as there are some massive but rather run down GAA grounds

Looks like it's Casement Park, home of Antrim

👍 Adam - Casement Park, Belfast. Run down being a more than applicable description in this case, as you can see. In fact it’s no longer used, being one of those sites log jammed in grandiose redevelopment plans (judging by the artist impression below) that no one has come up with the 💷💷 to deliver as yet.

Will leave it to others to guess.

IMO the ground that’s too big for the club, although I shouldn’t knock ambition. Lovely stadium with padded seats
