I don’t see why anyone would support a candidate who lost by a fair margin, who seems hell bent on reversing the outcome.

It reminds me of Don King trying to overturn the Mike Tyson KO loss against Buster Douglas.

As far as I know I'd never met a Canadian before but I hope to God they're not all like those feckers that day.

Its more a case of the Quebeccers feel they are entitled to everything, and thanks to the current PM's Dad they pretty well have rules and benefits that the rest of Canada do not...As is always the case gessa, there are some good 'uns amongst them, but overall they have a reputation for arrogance and selfishness... to this day if you visit Quebec and you speak in English the majority of the time they will ignore you.

Not good John. Hope this is the depth of insanity and some sense comes back.

It was really sad to see, but almost inevitable having been egged on by Trump, Giuliani and others ever since the election day.

As an aside (but related) there are a couple things that I find bewildering.

Firstly that the Senate and Congress can (and some tried) to overturn the votes of the electorate.

Secondly that even after Trump (or any other sitting President) is defeated in a Presidential election they can continue to govern the country for over two months.

There's always a chance to introduce some humour

The law, therefore, gave Congress the authority to approve or deny particular groups.

The second is a result of the fact that the constitution was written in the 18th century when it took a long time for states to tabulate their votes, name their electors, and get them to Washington. That's why the election is held the first Tuesday in November but the electoral votes aren't counted officially in Washington until January 6th and the president isn't inaugurated until the 20th.

Changing the date of the inauguration would require a constitutional amendment, and that's very hard to accomplish, requiring approval of two-thirds of the various state legislatures.

None of this has ever been an issue until now. This is what happens when you have an amoral, narcissistic, authoritarian blowhard for a president. These institutions work only when everyone buys in and agrees to abide by the rules.

As you say it hasn't created an issue in the past because the Presidents (regardless of their politics) have been mature adults.
