I know the first single I bought was Slade’s “ Cum on Feel the Noize “ . I’m not so sure about my first album but I think it may have been Rick Wakeman’s “ Journey to the Centre of the Earth” .

Single: The Specials 'Ghost Town'

Album: AC/DC 'Highway to Hell' (bought it on the strength of the cover, turned out to be a great album. Even though I'm not a heavy rock fan!)

I used to order records from sites in the New Musical Express.

I ordered two singles as my first 45:

Magazine - Give Me Everything

The Members - Sound of the Suburbs (clear vinyl)

LP was probably:

Stiff Little Fingers - Inflammable Material

Or Skids - Scared to Dance

Or The Jam - In the City

Can't remember :duno:

And I assumed a Clash record would be one of your first purchases WR.

First single: Sparks - This Town Ain't Big Enough For The Both Of Us.

I was 8, got it from WH Smith's for 45p, and used to bounce around on the sofa to it.

First Album: Bob Dylan - Blonde On Blonde

Think I was 11 or 12. I'd spoken to a busker outside York Minster (when children could still speak to strange adults), and he'd recommended I get Highway 61, based on the songs he was playing that I liked. When I got to the record shop, they didn't have it, so they let me have Blonde On Blonde, a double album, for the same price. I loved it, and thought the words and images were amazing.

I see the influence in your name on here now (The Clash ) . I'm same era , same sort of influences . Played in a punk band for a while , didn't get up to much other than messing around . Got into the real hardcore punk scene 81 onwards and still listen to pretty much the same stuff . Could talk all day about punk , even thought of doing something on it during first lockdown .

Hey CW,

Black and White was also one of the first albums I bought.

Brilliant album, and came with Walk on By on white vinyl, which I swapped with another Stranglers buddy for the Pink EP.

Great days mate, I used to get £5 pocket money every week and it was difficult to choose which punk album to buy.

Best period in music for me and very exciting to be growing up at that time.

All my mates were into the same music: Buzzcocks, Jam, Clash, Siouxsie, Sham 69.

I think we were really fortunate to grow up then ☺️

We were pretty skint in those days 64, so we just used to share albums.

I bought Clash singles, and first album was Give em Enough Rope.

As time moved on I went to college and was more into The Cure, The Bunnymen, The Doors and Hendrix.
