When I see things like that makes me wish I hadn't parted with all of my albums . The chap who was my hifi dealer stroke friend had 20000 albums (vinyl )mostly first presses so sat on a fortune. His cd collection was also enormous.

Nice collection mate... very impressive...I noticed in another thread you mentioned you used to be in the music business. Did that incorporate in and around the Leeds area ?...And was it on the retail side or on the music scene as a whole?
Re: My new music room

I have the same regrets MJ, I sold much of my vinyl collection in the late 70's when I needed to raise money for a mortgage on the first property I ownedMick Jones shoulder wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 5:07 pm When I see things like that makes me wish I hadn't parted with all of my albums . Worked in retail for 30 years (25 in music retail), started at Barkers on The Headrow & then moved next door to Schofields department store when the manager of their music section poached me . Managed in Bournemouth, Manchester, Brighton & had my own shop in Eastbourne for the last eight years in music retail.Smudge3920 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 5:19 pm Nice collection mate... very impressive...I noticed in another thread you mentioned you used to be in the music business. Excellent, always nice to have a job (career) that one loves and to be successful in ... Did you know Banksy's music store in the Grand Arcade in Leeds. opposite the Mecca?... I ask because it is where my Uncle started his musical career... as a music assistant, and playing the sheet music for customer's (piano)... Before he moved on to be an entertainer.1964white wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 5:38 pm Worked in retail for 30 years (25 in music retail), started at Barkers on The Headrow & then moved next door to Schofields department store when the manager of their music section poached me . Can't recall Banksy's Smudge.Smudge3920 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 5:44 pm Excellent, always nice to have a job (career) that one loves and to be successful in ... If memory serves me right there was a Vallances on the opposite side of The Headrow, Virgin opened a really small store in Queen Victoria St, Scene & Heard in Kirkgate I think! Jumbo Records opened a store in the Merrion Centre during the mid-70's of course!

I also managed William Hill stores in East/North Yorks for five years, put me completely off betting for life although my stakes were small betsSmudge3920 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 5:44 pm Excellent, always nice to have a job (career) that one loves and to be successful in ... Re: My new music room
I did the same. I have two cases left of the ones that I couldn't get rid of. Made a fortune on Wakefield market. Got rid of all my CD's as well bar a few. Happy with digital music now, especially as my hearing is not so good (pardon !). My Music Room is on my phone.
Strangely, my son got a deck for Christmas, last year, and he now only buys vinyl. Strange how it goes in cycles. My old ones were rescued from the attic for a Christmas sing song, and I was surprised how clean the sound was.

Me too Gandalf. I stupidly sold my Tyrannosaurs Rex original vinyl albums on Wakey market. (1973 )....I really regret it. What is your Wakey history Gandalf, I was born and Bred in WakeyGandalf wrote: ↑Wed Oct 07, 2020 6:51 pm I did the same. I have two cases left of the ones that I couldn't get rid of. Re: My new music room
That is exactly what I did, it included a heck of a lot of my dad's old original 58's pressings. I did get a great return, but still sometimes regret doing it.
Unlike you, I have never rebuilt a collection though. The last album I bought(CD) was about 18 years ago
Re: My new music room
Very impressive 64.
I used to go to the one in the Merrion Centre at lunchtime whilst at Kitson College ( one day a week) but couldn't remember the name. Didn't realise it was Jumbo.

Re: My new music room
The room was a small dining room, over the last few years we ate all our meals in the kitchen so it became just a passage way through to the conservatory, it was cluttered with a dresser, table & chairs. Now with the new shelving/cupboards & just two chairs it has open up the room & we are spending more time there, it is also south facing so the room always feels warm during the day without any heating on!
Lockdown & zoom interviews inspired me Swannie seeing all the shelving units in other peoples homes.
Re: My new music room
Have you made electronic copies of everything Leon?
Just thinking that would have been an enormous job.

Re: My new music room
During the mid-2000 years I uploaded hundreds of my albums on two iPods then I discovered Spotify so I rarely listen to my music on the iPods. My preferred listening is still through the CD player Norm.
