Shearer spouting his usual non-researched crap about how we are going to concede bucketloads cos of how open we are. Even a casual glance at last season's table would show us having the best defence and a bit of in depth research would show the likes of the match v Derby where they didn't even have a touch in our penalty area for the first hour of the game. Yes we've looked a bit open but we've played Man City and Liverpool in 2 of our 4 matches so far in the premiership - no doubt the only 4 matches Shearer will have used to base his knowledge of us on.

He always was a pratt,a new CB pairing, 3 games together, starting to get to know each others way of playing, yet they looked good together against the second best side in England.weasel wrote: ↑Sat Oct 03, 2020 11:57 pm Shearer spouting his usual non-researched crap about how we are going to concede bucketloads cos of how open we are. It can only improve and we will not be up against that quality every week.
Let Shearer have his say, it gives us something else to laugh at

Never liked Shearer as a player, he is even more tedious on our TV screens

Re: Match Of The Day/Football Focus
We have already conceded more touches in the box / chances against and goals this season as compared to where we were after four games in the league.
And the way we play will not change that either.
Thankfully we have a better goalkeeper than the previous two in goal now.
And to be fair to Shearer he said we would both score and conceded a lot more which is likely seeing we have basically abandoned playing in midfield.
Hargreaves saying "loads" was the closest to anyone saying "bucketloads"

"Football is about the people and the players,” he said. “Then there are those who will mingle in the middle: the coaches, executives and journalists. That last group represents the worst part about football" Marcelo Bielsa

What did Shearer actually say in that piece that was so objectional?Brolins_Ghost wrote: ↑Sun Oct 04, 2020 12:48 am He always was a pratt,a new CB pairing, 3 games together, starting to get to know each others way of playing, yet they looked good together against the second best side in England.

Re: Match Of The Day/Football Focus
Spouted the lazy observation that we probably cannot sustain this level of intensity over a full season. He said with so many games coming thick and fast, Leeds wouldn't be able to keep it up. Am I right in thinking that we play 8 games fewer than in the Championship? The season comes to an end just around the time (statistically) that our Championship season broke for the pandemic. Why not do a little research before coming up with a tired statement for probably no more reason than he read in the papers that we ran out of steam the season before last. For what it's worth, Linekar on MOTD dismissed the notion out of hand.

Good analysis i thought from both guys. Baring in mind what channel they are on (bit arrogant that in it? Manchester is... red) the temptation to stick the knife in on both teams was there to fit the audience. Until we finish a season strong and without interruption the burnout question will always be there. Its followed Bielsa wherever he's been.

Re: Match Of The Day/Football Focus
I thought first season we didn't finish the season with as strong mentality, i thought we looked a little jaded towards the end? And last season was disrupted by Corvid, although after that dip in form we did look really strong on that 5 games winning run without conceding just before the virus. We are obviously playing less games this season so it should be a stroll.
Re: Match Of The Day/Football Focus
We didn't burn out first season, we were ravaged by injury and had no options from the bench. Plus the pressure got to the lads as well.

Re: Match Of The Day/Football Focus
We physically outplayed Derby and looked the mentally stronger team, then the error and panic. I don't really think we had dips in form either, we haven't been outplayed by any team for 2 seasons and 4 games.
