Brentford v Leeds Utd Match Thread - Phillips returns for Alioski

Post by Ellandback1 »

Brentford v Leeds Utd
Tuesday 11th February 2020, 7.45pm | Live from Griffin Park

Leeds travel to West London on Tuesday evening in search of their first first win in England's Capital for over two years including losses against Charlton, Millwall, Fulham and QPR this term. To make matters worse Leeds have not won at Brentford since 1950!

Bielsa welcomes back Kalvin Phillips following his three match ban he picked up at QPR. The veteran Argentine Manager is under pressure to give new signing Jean-Kevin Augustin a starting slot following his second half debut against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. If Augustin were to start, would it be in place of Bamford or could we see two play up front for first time this season? Tyler Roberts once again joins Adam Forshaw on the treatment table.

Brentford captain Pontus Jansson has recovered from a hip injury and looks certain to start against his former club. Bees manager Thomas Frank was in fighting mood on Monday ahead of the game saying; "They couldn't pick a worse place to play on Tuesday night, they couldn't - I am 100% sure of that." Despite Frank's words the two teams will head into the game separated by just two points in the table. Leeds are currently 2nd on 55 points, with the Bees currently lying 5th with 53 points. If the Leeds players needed any more encouragement Frank's comments should act as a team talk in themselves.

Brentford are unbeaten in their past nine home league matches against Leeds United (W6 D3) since losing 2-1 in August 1950. Should Leeds win at Brentford, it would be 69 years and 169 days since their last away league win there, their second biggest gap between away league wins against an opponent, with their longest standing at 74 years between wins at Millwall in 1931 and 2005. Brentford are looking to win three consecutive league games for the first time since October - they've won their last two by an aggregate score of 8-3.

Hoping for the best but fearing the worst.

That's more like it Sara  those five dropped players are lucky to be on the bench after their recent feeble performances!

Unfortunately I doubt Marcelo will make many changes

Pontus should have a easy comeback game!

Lets hope & pray one of our useless crosses hits the big man & our 2nd highest scorer OG scores another goal off his backside

Dallas in midfield is what will kill our chances.

Surely more understanding footballing brains than mine has picked up on that?

Pity at the so called press conferences he rarely gets quizzed about things like that.

I've posted what I think the starting line up will be, not what I'd like it to be

Looks a decent little team to me.

Was it West Brom at home last season, though, where MB proved us all wrong by picking the same team that lost to QPR?

Mot sure what game it came after tbh.
The early goal set us up that West Brom game, one of those would be nice tonight.

Followed this forum for some time. Lifelong supporter living in Canada.
Just asking
Is there any other coach in any league who for, what will be 2 seasons, has started every single game with 1 striker, and finished almost every single game with 1 striker, even when chasing the game
Plan B? Not happening now.
Perhaps explains why he has never coached a better team
Messi or Suarez on the bench
Ronaldo or Benzeman on the bench
Neymar or Mbappe on the bench
Could go on and on
